Are all 1928-1931 Model A front fenders the same? I have found a set of 1928 sport coupe fenders and I'm wondering if they will fit on my 1931 sedan....
You got a lot to change. The splash aprons are not the same. The inner supports are not the same, so the head lamp rod is different. Why would you want to do that. Some one has a set of correct fenders for sale or swap. Or new gl*** or steel if you got the coin. They just don't look right. Look at a 30-31 with 28-29 headlight bar on it, and it just looks strange, My 3 cents. Iceman
Yes they will fit with the correct supports. Almost all 28-29 front fenders are the same, and all 30-31 front fenders are the same. Car, truck, coupe, sedan, doesnt matter. A Henry Ford solution to aid in production, Make em all the same. Some guys dig 28-29 fenders on 30-31 cars. Im not one of them. 28-29 splash aprons i believe are all the same, and 30 splash aprons are different then 31s.
They are way different, so the practical answer is "No". Of course if you really wanted to make them go on, you could, but why would you?
I agree with most of what Tank said. They will fit but are very different. I like the 28-29 fenders better. The 28-29's had an extra piece that fit on top of the fender along the frame that made them fit against the hood. They may call it a hood shelf. Red
Oh yeah, forgot about the hood shelf on 28-29s, not sure how that would work with a 30-31 hood though. I think you could leave the shelf off since it bolts down with the hood latch bolts if you wanted to use 28-29 fenders on a 30-31.
Yeah, leaving them off would probably work. The Alexander bros. Gr***hopper, one of my favorites, used 28-29 fenders with a 30-31 truck cab. I don't think they used the hood shelves, but they only had a hood top on it. Red
Thanks for the advice. I had not yet bought the 29 fenders, I wanted to no if they would fit first. Guess i will keep looking for a set of 31's, too bad the 28's are mint!
30-31 fenders are different running boards and splash aprons are different do youself a favor and skip the purchase tk
I like the way 28 / 29 Front fenders roll with the tires,,I used them on my last 30 sedan..Use frnders ,,fender braces,,and splash aprons all for 28 / 29 and they will work fine..I used 30 rear fenders to finish the project...
Early 1931 fenders have a eyebrow embossed around the outer perimeter at the front of the fender. You can see the difference in the pictures.
because the 28/9 fenders are more desirable to real hot rodders. LOL Very old mod, most guys that are not restorers prefer the '28/9 fenders. They pretty much bolt on.
As super wildcat and others point out, the '30-'31fenders are different. Early '30 fenders have what is called the "eyebrow" and were discontinued in February of 1930. After April of 1930 all front fenders had a raised dimple around the mounting screws. Do yourself a favor and get the correct fenders for your Model A, '29 fenders on a 1931 look hideous.
Op's question, 2010. He was last here in 2015. So I guess he's either done something or not but has definitely disappeared.
are 28-29 rear fenders same as 30-31 rear fenders. I know there are many differences between 28/29 and 30/31 but not sure about them rear fenders
The notch in the coupe and roadster rear fenders is different on the 28-29 fenders. The 30-31 fenders are also slightly longer.
While there are differences between the two different sets, it can and has been done. The front splash apron swap isn't a big deal. The headlight bar and fender irons need to be matched to the correct version of fenders. If you find a full set of either, it can be made to work. I really considered running 28/29 fenders on my 30 Coupe. There are a couple really neat 60s era 30/31 Fords running the earlier fenders. I think the design looks better, especially the front fenders.
