    Hello,

We have known Jack Ewell since the old days of drag racing at Lion’s Dragstrip. He was the shop manager at Mickey Thompson’s Shop(s) near our house. There were three versions of the shop. Just type in Jack Ewell in the HAMB search and there will be some very early history from coupes to dragsters in his repertoire. When we showed the shop our 671 SBC Willys Coupe, the guys there were impressed that a couple of teenagers could do what we tried and it ran hard. They saw it at Lion's Dragstrip all Summer.

The trio of Jack Ewell, Bill Stecker and Jim Kamboor make/made quite a team.

“Jack Ewell and Bill Stecker out of San Pedro, CA. They went on to run a series of Top Fuel cars in partnership with James Kamboor in later years.”

This is my take as a tribute to the sleek, Black FED race car that ran in 1961-62 season. Also, the reinvented Orange color FED in 1964. The latest recreation was on display at the 2019 version of the Lion’s Dragstrip museum, in front of the yellow, upper crosswalk/ timing tower from the those years.

Since this is October, the Halloween month, the Orange/Black FED from 1961-64 fits. The Friday Art Halloween October artwork scheme of Orange/Black or whatever color and design showcased, all month. Get those colored pencils, art paper and paints out for some unusual Halloween Artwork this October. “Orange is the new Black” from a streaming series that fits the month of October well.

My first attempt at art in my adult life… trying to get some of these ideas out of my head on onto paper. Hoping to add some color this weekend.

PS: Please keep my wife Jennifer in your thoughts and prayers. She spent nearly another full week in the hospital with a violent GI issue. Came home yesterday and is doing better but we await the results of her Colonoscopy labs! He quote to our son in NY who struggled with w where he ought to be, “ Don’t worry, I’m not making any funeral plans…”

    Have a great weekend all!!!

  21. Another hit of great art show to fill my "art jones," always an event I look forward to. Please give our "art show legend" Jigger some love for his wife Jennifer's health issues.

  22. Damn good first attempt man. A word of advise, in color, keep it simple, don't over work it. As line art it's really effective. Maybe concider set this drawing aside (protect it) as a keeper and retrace it for color. In doing so, you have two pieces to be proud of and you retain and preserve the original art. I have box loads of 'starter' sketches I'm glad I never took to the next level.

God bless you my brother, I miss the South O gang but you most of all. Love ya brother, thank you for passing this along to the whole HAMB fam. We are very hopeful for good news.

Back when the Dream Truck first reappeared, Gary Emory (son of Neil) had some tee shirts made commemorating it's appearance at Paso. I don't know who the artist was, but since I always liked the first rendition best, this certainly pushes my start button !! R&C Dream Truck Shirt 003.JPG
