https://www.hemmings.com/cl***ifieds/cars-for-sale/chevrolet/standard/2624316.html#&gid=1&pid=8 This seems like a really good deal. Is it priced about right ?
Seems like a decent car for the money if it’s something you like. I’m sure being a Chevy and four door turn off a lot of buyers but the price reflects that. I don’t see anything that stands out and screams at me be careful in the pictures. Would be a good car to just drive and maintain, fix, and upgrade as you go. If it were me I would like to be 10k or a little under but prices are so crazy now I don’t even know what’s a good deal anymore.
Everybody has an opinion. Paul Harrel usually prefaces his by saying, " My opinion is based on my experiences, my training and my area" yours may differ. I would say you probably couldnt duplicate that car in todays world for that money. All depends on what you want .Good luck.
Seems reasonable to me for what it is. It appears pretty solid in the pics and is likely pretty driveable with the sbc. As mentioned, the pricing somewhat reflects that it is a four door and a Chevrolet. But, if you like it, that is all that matters. If it were a 36 Ford coupe in that condition, it would be a smoking deal. And, the reason there are a couple four doors at my house is because they were good deals. Good luck if you decide to go after it.
If you like it after a test drive, buy it. If you plan on keeping it and not flip, you should be good.
Wood. Nobody has mentioned the wood. That car is all wood with a steel skin, and if that wood is starting to let go it could be the worst purchase you will ever make. Check it out thoroughly. If the doors droop when you open them, my opinion is run away.
Hello, Sorry you have decided to p*** on it. Yes, the Chevy sedan sounds like the former owner did a good job of building it. It does need some work and then that is up to your skills or have it finished by a good local shop, if you cannot complete it. As an old car, it had great access to the back seat area for friends and family. But, the one thing it does not have is A/C. We all drove around with no a/c over the years, but in this day and age, it is a must. As far as the style, it has that old time gangster look that was part of the original look from the factory. One of my brother’s friends had a 4 door 37 Chevy sedan and it was factory black. He drove it all over the place, to high school, our house, road trips and teenage gatherings. On Halloween, it was perfect for dressing up as 20’s-30’s gangsters including Dobb’s Fedora hats. You will have to see if the larger side windows of the 36 is acceptable versus the smaller windows of the 37 sedan. We like two door sedans, but our next old hot rod was going to be a 4 door 1940 Ford sedan. We wanted easy access to the back seat area for our granddaughter. But, by the time we were inching closer to the purchase, she was now growing up and getting into her own teenage things with close friends from school. We know she and her friends like cool cars and the sounds they make. Even my wife’s station wagon was a “what a cool car” statement from several of our granddaughter’s friends as we accelerated away from a stop light. Much to the delight of two old grandparents. Ha! Buying cars already built are good and bad. The sedan seems like it is put together well, but time will tell. When we bought a 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, it was a nice looking sedan delivery. It was all put together, but we knew we had some stuff to add and subtract for our project. Jnaki Once in your garage, take it out for a long cruise. We did that and liked it immensely. But, we did find out several things that we did not like from the original build and had to correct those projects. One has to drive around for a short while until things you did not build start doing some funny business. Ours was safety as we were going to use it for our photo business and cruising, too. We needed it to stop, handle well and be a safe well driving hot rod for our needs. Something to consider considering the build versus some of the more exorbitant prices on some hot rods for sale that need some work or two...YRMV
This one has 150K on it since 1980. Raised the kids going to runs over the years. When it was purchased as a deep project in 1976 it cost $125. Ford sheet metal in the same condition was in the $2K range. They make nice Street Rods, just not in the main stream......
Through the years the 4dr cars were mostly considered parts cars. I'm willing to bet today there's fewer 4dr sedans around because of that. It might not make it more valuable but it will make it unique. In my eyes there is nothing wrong with a 4dr.
36 1/2 was 100 % steel car . Still ***led as a 36 . This car would need a visual to determine if termite food or a steel car . If determined to be all metal it’s a steel !
Prices all over the board are coming down, soon this will be a $6000 car like it should have been for the last two decades.
There’s the flip side of what it should sell for. If you’re looking for one like that, say you find one that runs, but needs paint, etc, you’d be into it for more than the listed price. I looked a a few of the pics of the car, looked nice. I’m not a fan of a humpback, but if I was in the market for that make and model, the price of it and (my guess) the ability to get in and start driving it would be very attractive to me. Heck, there’s not too many complete total project vehicles of any make/model made in the 30’s for under 2500.
