So my 29 has a downdraft SR and it has just been leaking all over er the place and now is dumping gas out the manifold. ***uming it needs a new diaphragm and obviously gaskets. Does anyone have a lead on who is making kits now? The few guys I knew of have stopped making rebuild kits. I appreciate any leads.
I am unaware of anyone currently making kits for Winfield carbs. It would have to be a labor of love, as there is way too small a demand to justify the tooling costs. I doubt if we have had 5 inquiries TOTAL since we started selling kits in 1974. I am not familiar with the Winfield diaphragm. There are basically two styles of diaphragms: flat and "bag". If flat, they can be cut by a steel rule die. If bag type, generally a steam die is required. If the diaphragm is flat, and someone will send a used sample; I will look at the costs. Same with the gaskets, but probably no point in trying to make anything if the diaphragm is the bag type. Just so everyone understands the economics: typically, if the diaphragm and all gaskets are flat, then USA tooling (not including the fuel valve), and initial parts run would run $3~$10 k depending on the number of different dies, and the complexity. One has to have lots of orders to justify that kind of investment. If the diaphragm is of the bag type, I am not interested. Jon
There is a person in Germany that sells them, dm_mailer is his sellers name. Doesn't have any listed now but if you search completed sales you will see his ads.
Try these guys. On youtube they have a couple of videos. (310) 325-4303 or visit our website www.braunsautomotive.com Rooster
Thanks for posting, good to know. As stated above, I get virtually zero inquiries, but will now be able to refer folks. Jon.
I really appreciate it, I'll reach out and see what I can find. I hate to shelf this intake and carb but a stromberg is starting to make more sense.
