On the cover of one of Petersen's Spotlite books from the 60's. Book written by George Barris, cover photo by George Barris...
It was featured in Petersen's Custom Car Yearbook No. 1 as well.
Sorry, no help in the search but @Moriarity I'm rootin' for ya!

One solution would be to get rid of the gr*** in your yard, pour Green concrete and put a deck over it. ;)

This would sure be a cool one to be found and back in circulation. One of my faves. Can't believe @stanlow69 doesn't have pictures of it on his wall from '93 and @Sancho has not found it yet. Get with it guys!

Noting negative from me.. In fact Joe Cardoza. I believe was the owner and owned a donut shop .I was a freshman in in school and would take my breaks at the shop. Myself and a buddy would see the car as it was in the building stage.

Not to criticize, but should this thread be moved to "Traditional Customs"?

It probably should, I was just trying to get more visibility by posting here

  15. I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall a posting on this car here that it was seen in Bakersfield and was owned by a biker-type who didn't want to sell. 6-8 years ago?

I am pretty sure that is the Bettancourt Merc story you are thinking of. It was rumored to be in the LA area "owned" (considering it was stolen) by bikers.

  17. I recall a ****py pic of the car sitting in a driveway, but the ol' memory isn't what it used to be...

You must be thinking of a different car. The Bettancourt Merc was owned by Johnny Zupan, who lived in California, until he died in 1970 and then it was stolen form Dean Jefferies shop the same year and there has been no confirm whereabouts since then.

Did someone contact Mr Gustavson and ask about the car?
It seems he was its last known owner.

I did read all postings again and the Custom Clinic of Mark Gustavson was the last place where it was seen. They wanted to restore it and make a do***entation about the restoration but then the shop closed.
Now that I have read it again it is not clear if the Custom Clinic owned it and wanted to restore it or if it should be restored there for another owner. I misread that first.
That said, I would contact Mr Gustavson as he was the last known person who had it in his shop.

are you sure we are talking about the right guy? The Mark Gustavson that I know used to run a website (now defunct) called the custom clinic ,I have talked to him numerous times in the past and never knew him to own a body shop. I think he is a lawyer. he is the same guy that is writing a book on the Starbird Predicta. http://thepredictaproject.org/news/
He lives in Utah. and is the head of the national model car museum.

Gotta be the same guy. How many Mark Gustavson's could there be that are into customs (and models)?

Yep, the one in Austin is the one I know and also who facilitated the Friday Garage Crawls before the Lonestar Round Up.

I think the confusion is from the Custom clinic website that Mark Gustavson use to have and the Custom clinic bodyshop in Calif that this car was supposedly at, 2 different unrelated Custom clinics. I don't know if the name of the owner of the body shop was known
