I believe the '59 Ford's have gained in popularity due in part of the Hamb, I know since I joined the hamb in 2003 I felt like the 51-54 Fords were the redheaded stepchildren in the Ford line up, very few aftermarket parts were available and patch panels were few and far between.

The 52-54 Fords have really gained in popularity in the last 20 years and I foresee the '59 Ford as the next car in the line up to be a potential prom queen.

I also noticed you are not a member of the 52-59 Ford Social club, there is a lot of guys willing to help you source parts.

Jeffs 52-59 Ford Social Club has been instrumental and beneficial when seeking parts or information concerning these cars. HRP

    Hello,

As far as popularity of early Fords for hot rods, those coupes/sedans had the hot rod market. The Ford sedan styling from 1958 to 60 was a little stogy. The Chevy sedans had won the market definitely in the 55-64 era. Then the big Chevy sedans went overboard and performance was not the most popular model. So, perhaps, the 64-65 Chevelle models including the El Caminos took over the sales market.

We lived in a working cl*** neighborhood and all sedans were seen, other than the Chrysler products, (including Dodge and Plymouth) One of our neighbors always drove by our house from 1959 to 62, then he moved. But his new 1959 Ford always came down our street heading toward PCH.

We can’t fault the teenage buyers, the Chevy sedans just had more style and power. The photo shows the Chevy market is a two to one ratio. That was about the correct scene, but for Ford fans, any new model was a good for them, after all, it was a Ford.

Our neighbor liked cars, but this 1959 Ford was his first real NEW car. He was proud of it and drove it all over our whole Westside area. We saw it constantly drive by our house. One day, my brother and I were going to a family wedding and stopped to talk to our cousins in their 56 Chevy Hardtop.

The black and white 59 Ford zipped by all of us. The neighbor gave us the "cool" head shake of recognition... Ha! A Ford in a Chevy neighborhood!!!

I never liked the ‘59 Fords either from the front or from the back since I was a kid when they were very common. The front reminded me of an old grinning granny with the ugly gl***es of the era. The rear, especially the taillights, reminded me of a toilet plunger. I could almost imagine they made the same sound, especially when these cars had a bad muffler and ran with a miss.
They’ve grown on me in the last decade or so. I still can imagine the plunger noises when I see the taillights and imagine the old grinning granny face from the grill and headlights. It’s a more nostalgic feeling and a reminder of better days.

Interesting, as I was growing up my Dad had 55, 56,57, 58x2, 62x2 Fords never a 59 he would buy them a few years old but for some reason skipped the 59. I have kinda followed step and owned 55, 56x3, 57x3, 62, 64x7, 65x5 and 66x2. The x# is how many of each all big cars Galaxie, Fairlane or Custom again I never owned a58 or 59 just didn't seem to fall into my line of sight and I do love the body style kind of a factory customer in my eyes.

I worked with a ***** old goat about 40 years ago, his sage advice was "whatever you don't like... cover it up with a rag."

I worked in a big defense plant when I was like 26. The old bats from electrical ***embly, some of them were very well preserved and approaching retirement years. AND seriously on the make. We used to have big picnics and I'd be crossing the parking lot when it was dark and see some getting plowed in the back seat of a car. Skirt up, high heels hanging out the side window...

Circling back to this thread after being away for awhile for work....Looks like there is mixed love for the '59 era...also appears things went South rather quick while I was gone....but I see the resemblance in the old grinning granny and my front end!
