Sold all the paintings, did a few for myself and one left on deck! CAFC31A6-0138-4EE0-A9CD-1AFA0B7B84AB.jpeg C3F0D8C5-06B8-4BFA-B9F9-7A05266E5F1D.jpeg 961EFADA-EFC6-4C71-B48A-DD3CAFCAF6D3.jpeg not the best photos but they were the first ones I found on my phone. Painting on a model T door is harder than I remember. Last one was an A maybe it makes a difference lol.

either way car has been paused, but fired up after the gathering at the rock with @redzula @BigJoeArt @J.Ukrop and basically everyone else I’m pretty fired up for next year.

i pick up the new fire breathing 283 tonight from @raven with @porkn******

Going to make a shopping list and make a plan. Should be back on the road before turkey day.

life’s been melting my brain lately. I need some old car road time. Stay tuned ;)

Go Tim, Go! Old car road time is good for slowing down in this crazy world we are in (especially when you are an old grandpa like me that everyone waves at...;)).

E1532D13-AD4C-4B3B-8839-31E3E74AF81D.jpeg Wrapped up til it’s more situated 42B6EED9-2BB2-4A79-B27C-99256A9774B3.jpeg C6B58A0C-77B3-4BDD-B43F-619987FE6307.jpeg looks nice and clean 2294037F-F580-4527-824C-218F81884FEF.jpeg 32B2683E-CF1F-4CCC-B955-941B2E28B4F1.jpeg FB56B7C7-AE88-487A-82A0-DB11F536620F.jpeg from what I gather this means it’s a 1967 283. The front pad should have numbers to the left I believe? I’m ***uming it’s been decked and that’s why they are gone maybe @squirrel can decode it better? The numbers are stamped correctly to be original, the location is strange, but then again it's hard to tell from the picture what's going on, because of the camera angle...a bit too close up....

GF suffix was used on the 2bbl 283 used in 67 Chevy full size cars.

Sorry for the funny angle I’d taken the photo so I could come inside and write the numbers down. The numbers are stamped on the more horizontal flat of the block. Front p***enger side.

That's what it looked like. Strange...but they really do look like the factory stamped numbers would look. The shape of the numbers is unique.

    Cool. Thanks for the help.

got the old motor off the stand onto a dolly and started walking the cam out.

new motor strapped to a cart. Gonna try to get the new motor on the stand and the pile of old motor situated and make a parts list.

Need to finish a painting then that money will go to the parts list.

looking forward to forward movement on the car again :)

Alright with an amount of sketchiness reserved only for hot rodders the new motor is on the stand and the old short block on a dolly. 3EB990FA-32E1-4524-9EF4-017A2336CCC4.jpeg got the cam slid out of the old motor. Lifters looked perfect so I’m gonna pull the cam out of the new motor and see which is lumpier 8193669C-1B19-4074-9373-A0B90A2740E3.jpeg looks like we got ourselves a real live race motor hear! 43FAC7D3-6D17-473C-B895-3CDD1C3B7B5E.jpeg ****ers brand new maybe got ten minutes on it. Even the intake gaskets look perfect other than where I bolted the hoist chain on. Lots of road dust but so far so good! Excited to see it painted up nice and making noise

Pulled the valve covers looks like 1967 283 power packs. Same head on the 195 hp two barrel motors and the 285 ish hp injected motors. I’m hoping that with an intake, 4 barrel, cam and freer exhaust to land closer to that 280 number.

I also think if almost all broken rings in an about to start making a lot of percussion was moving it around just fine that I’m not gonna be hard to please

Well 900 texts with @porkn****** and @Austin kays I think I’ve landed on a plan for getting this motors looking and sounding good.

I had planned on buying some vette finned covers for the new motor but since the last time I bought a pair they went up 400%

After I got back up off the floor I started on a list of plan B’s. In my head this motor won’t look right with out finned vette covers or chromed script tins.

I obsessed over it, chewing on it like a dog with some table s**** gristle until my jaw hurt.

woke up this morning and found an outfit in nearby Wichita that make a 3/8 thick adapter to run the staggered covers on the newer straight pattern heads. Done deal. That little bit of space shouldn’t hurt anything and if I want to run upgraded rockers etc later they should clear with the adapter/ spacer in place.

I’ll need to remove and plug the stock pvc baffle/ port in the back of the block but other wise should be ready to tear into it a little
More and then pretty it up.

alright ramble over. Here’s to making noise before I hear sleigh bells a jingling

Very cool Tim! Other than the race motor deal :D, we ended up with a similar 283 for my sons AD pickup project with no miles on it. And, I also ended up with a set of Cal Custom valve covers for that one but vette ones would be even cooler. Like an idiot, I let my last set of vette covers that Clay gave me for FREE go on a truck I sold. :(

@Dan Coburn I’ve been do***enting most of the last ten years here hoping it would be helpful to someone… even if that someone is me trying to remember what exactly did haha.

@guthriesmith Yeah I’m grateful these adapters popped up on my radar. Buddy brought his bigger hoist over which should let me drop the motor in with out the amount of sketchiness employed to pull it out.

How did you come up with the final length on the bones? My biggest fear right now is cutting them too short. I mean I could add material but would rather not have to

I got them wrong, bolted it to the car and then measured how much further back it would have to come for the leaf spring to go into the crossmember correctly. You do have some wiggle room with the length of the tie rod end - with jamb nut!- because you can make it shorter or longer to a certain degree.

get the trans/ wish bone mount installed. Cut the yoke off, pull the spring out and mount the tie rod ends to the mount and swing them over. Mark with chalk and go for it. I suppose you could add some length to that if you wanted to feel safe about it and sneak up on it.

but really this is just as easy as measuring how long you belt is. Your pants probably aren’t gonna fall down go for it lol

I think I’ve got all the ones he actually wrote outside of… one or two of the early ones like the book on Typhoid Mary.

Working on getting the gasket surfaces clean up last few nuts and bolts painted and a hardware list made. Ordering the coil, bracket and front shocks tomorrow morning. Plan to fire it up Sunday with @Austin kays after we fiddle with it some ;) BC127F32-97C8-4438-9427-72EB8D312ACF.jpeg put the valve cover adapter on and need longer studs to reach threw the early vette covers F48082C4-52A9-4432-8B41-4164B4D4C72B.jpeg looks snazzy though and it should work better than trying to snake a bolt threw the valve cover, gasket, spacer, another gasket and into the block. Hopefully the hardware store has long enough ones on hand 8515F610-2C61-4918-99A8-E92A6A38CA4E.jpeg
