I bought this several years ago. Not sure what it was from. I bet its 6volt but I would love to crack this open and make it work on 12v. Any ideas on the year and manufacturer?

Some times the back of the gauge has some clues...such as numbers....or general appearance...picture?

and usually you can make them work with a voltage reducer, no need to take it apart. Unless you want to do some cosmetic work on it.

You can find out the ohm's range for the gauge using this method on 6v.

  5. 1935 Chevrolet, maybe deluxe, maybe standard, maybe truck. See the two diamonds and the number 2 with a broken curve.

Pretty interesting....doesn't look like the gauge in a 35 chevy, which has the gas gauge combined with the oil or temp, depending on whether it's standard or master. But at least you now know it's pretty likely that it will work with a 0-30 Ohm sender, and a 6v voltage reducer (the solid state type, not a resistor).

Thank you for the answer! Definitely 35 Chevy. Just ordered a 100 ohm variable pot so I can test it before ordering the sender. If it works, I'm going to mount it in the rear of the car on top of the tank in some kind of interesting can. Maybe a tear drop tail light housing for a 39 Chev. Cheers!
