coker wide white radials i had a blow out with 1 on my 58 ford 2 weeks ago and last nite the belt on 1 on my 50 chevy broke i used thier bias tires before the were good but a lot of bad luck with there radials is it my bad luck or are just bad tires ? both sets are less then 2 years old who makes good widewhite radials?
Thats why I went to spray painting whitewalls on ....I had many troubles with the coker wide white radials...mostly with a belt snapping inside the tire and ending up with a lump in the tread.....bump,bump,bump down the road! Had 2 friends also had the same problem. I know Corky reads the board...maybe he can find a way to improve the quality.
I have a set of four Coker W/Ws...285/15 rear and 185/15 front - they took forever to acquire (they had them in their catalog for a year before any were actually available - 285s anyway). Nary a problem, but they don't have 500 miles on them yet. dj
we just had two fronts with a very few miles on them that the sidewalls blisstered by the rim and got bubbles in them, they told us to not drive at all and shipped new and charged them to card and will give us a partial refund wehn they get them back, better than a kick in the *** but not buying more...............black is ok from now on!!!!!!!
Coker had some problems awhile back with their radials, but all reports I've heard(from sources other than Coker) say that the problem's been fixed.
I run Diamondbacks on two cars and have not had any trouble. 1 set on my Model A with 40,000+ miles and a set on my 53 Stude Commander with 10,000 Diamondback takes a standard production radial, shaves the sidewalls and glues on a decorative whitewall. The two main benifits I see are 1) Even if they do crack it is not structural to the sidewall. 2) they are less prone to discoloring because of the adhesive barrier. Just my 2cents.
Dang Teddyp...Sorry you had trouble. There are a number of questions we have about the tires, their age, when you bought em etc but most important thing is that why have you waited two weeks before calling us? We can fix it! I suggest you speak directly to Jess Hoodenpyle, the customer service manager. I bet he can solve the problem. If he doesn't. Send me a PM. Best, Corky Coker
In seven years I had TWELVE Coker Cl***ics on my shoebox, without wearing any of them out. That's eight defective tires, all having tread separation and blistering as Brewsir described. I switched to Diamondbacks about two years ago and have had no trouble whatsoever.
Bought two new Cokers for the front of my roadster (before the plaque discounts were available) and have experienced a big improvement in both ride and handling. just replaced my rear chrome reverses thru Coker, and even though they're produced by Wheel Vintiques, I got great "800" number response & service from the Coker folks. I've heard of problems from friends who ordered from Coker, & always advised them to do an "800" trouble shoot with the company. I've heard it works. My 2 cents only.
We take great pride in our customer service and we are here to help, if you have not allready given Jess a call you are more than welcome to give me a call at the number listed in my signiture. Like Corkey said, give us a call we will get it took care of.
My buddy Sean, had one one blow on his T-Bird yesterday, it didn't just blow, it absolutely exploded like a bomb. The tires are almost new,.
I Talked To Coker Tire Today They Said That Thier New Radials Are Much Improved . They Are Very Nice People And They Seem Realy Consern About Thier Product And Keeping Thier Customers Happy I Will Buy Replacement Tires From Them
You can't beat Coker customer service... This thread is evidence... Two guys jump in to help... that's awesome and that's exactly why we wanted to get Coker in the Alliance. Edit: I know people are going to come out of the woodwork now with issues... That's how this works... That said, keep in mind that Coker is a business and they have to look at the bottom line. When there is a defect, there are lots of things that can lead to that defect... and lets be honest with ourselves... alot of those defects are caused by things Coker can't control - application, alignment, balancing, etc... All that said, I've personally seen Coker over look the above more than once and go above and beyond. I say this as an unbiased guy as well... I get no money at all from Coker. I simply appreciate their level of customer service and wanted to reward that with the Alliance thing... In my opinion, venders don't get much better than Coker. And Corky Coker? One of the nicest guys on this planet and a huge supporter of the HAMB from a personal stand point...
I bought Cokers for my car. Bias plys. The reason I bought Coker is because they stand by their product and make it right. Hell, everyone has problems. Its how we deal with them that makes you reputable. Coker is reputable. I havent had ANY problems with my tires but if I ever do, I know I'll be taken care of ... THAT means something... Tires are a tough business. just look at what Firestone/ Ford went through My next tires? Coker...
That's how I make them, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to do it myself. Could do redlines the same way. Coker makes a really good bias ply tire and I plan on getting a couple sets in the future for two cars I'm working on. I'll reserve judgement on their radials until I hear from some guys putting miles on the new ones. Apparently the radials have had some problems in the past, but they do stand behind their ****.
Just curious here, but why didn't they give you new tires for free? Coker is very friendly, I'll admit that, but I'd rather have a product that's high enough quality so I never even have to deal with their customer service. What happened with all of the people that bought the old ****py tires? Did they all get free replacements? If the same thing happens again, will they replace them for free? Just wondering how much Coker stands behind their product. I'm about to order several WWW's so I'm glad this thread came up. I've never ordered from Coker before but was planning on it.
Does Coker actually make the tire or do they buy them from one of the major manufacturers and have their name stamped on it? Well, looks to me like you can't get a faster response from a manufacturer than what we've seen here, they seem to be ready to solve the problem if given the chance. Any tire company is going to want to know the specifics of how their product failed so they can correct it. The exploded, blistering, and broken radicals would certainly be of concern to Coker and I don't think they would be in business very long if it happened all the time. I don't have any Coker's and wouldn't be afraid to purchase them if they fit my build. They're working with the HAMB so let's work with them.
Had a brand new set of wide white bias plys. Good looking tire until I got around 500 miles on it when the white seperated from the black on the sidewall at 65 miles an hour on a two lane road without shoulders barely keeping it on the road. I wasn't too pissed, just figured a defect and thought they would stand by their product. Well they didn't, they said there was evidence of tire damage even though I checked the inside of the tread by hand to find punctures and didn't find any myself. I did receive a phone call and was offered a new tire at a reduced rate, which was kind of nice but they did have me by the balls because I wasn't going to get a missmatched tire or by a whole new set. Still kind of a sore spot and I wasn't too impressed with how they handled it. Geno
A couple years ago I was looking for wide white radials. After reading up here, I went with diamondbacks and I'd buy another set. They were $100 cheaper too.
No. The first two tires that went bad (circa 1999), they didn't compensate me at all. The next two they gave me some discount, but I had to pay the freight both ways. The next four (one at a time) they were much more helpful, gave me like $100 off on each replacement, and paid half the freight (Jess was there by this time). But customer service notwithstanding, you eventually lose your patience when one tire after another goes bad. I have no animosity toward Corky or Coker Tire. I have continued to buy bias tires from them. But when somebody asks for advice about their radials, I feel obliged to tell the truth: they failed me over and over again, and I can't recommend them in good conscience.
I dunno what to think. The Coker Cl***ics(P235/75R15) have been on my Hudson since 99. Just recently ran from Tulsa to Mokan and back in the heat without a problem and the WW's still look good. Gotta say the're a joy at 75 mph.
I guess this thread has been milked for all it's worth. I think I'm going to go with diamondback instead.
For everyone that has had problems with anything related to coker in the past I apologize, I can not speak for the past because I was not involved with that. What I can do though is guarantee that if you chose to go with our product that we will provide the best product possible and the best customer support in the industry. I take my job very seriously and if one of my customer is not happy then it is my job to do everything within my abilities to fix the problems. All of the management and Corky him self take customer satisfaction very seriously, our customers are our business, with out people who restore, modify and love the car hobby in general we are nothing. If any one has any question or problems you are always more than welcome to call or e-mail me.
or how about a gal??? I've got OVER 20,000 miles on my 13 month old radials with not one issue....well except for the fact that I really don't like scrubbing them to keep them clean BUT I guess if you drive your car your tires are gonna get dirty. My hats off to Coker for supplying a quality product at a fair price.
I'm doing my best to stay unbiased here. It should be known that Corky Coker is a buddy of mine and someone I respect a great deal. I think that is important for me to release just from a journalistic perspective. Knowing that will either decrease or increase my credibility on the subject depending on whether or not you know me personally... I ran radial wide whites for a few years, but quit running them simply because I think the bias tires look a ton better. All that said, I've ran radial wide whites from different companies on two different cars. About 5 years ago I bought the Coker radials for the front of my '38. They didn't balance very well, but I ran them till they were too dirty to get clean. I then switched to diamond back... They yellowed badly after 500 miles and I decided to go with Bias tires from there on in... Then, I put Coker radials on my pop's 57 Cad about 2 years ago. They now have over 10,000 miles on them and look as good as new. Perform well too... My honest to god opinion on the subject? I don't have one. I just like bias tires...
