Anyone planning on going to Viva this year? Sorry if its been asked already, but I only joined the board today! I am all booked up & looking forward to it
i would love to go but i can't get time off for it. have fun, i hear VLV is a kickass show. take some pictures if you can.
I am down to go, as I just got my chopt 50 ford driving on Sat, 2-14. I have been planning on going for the last 2 years, but last year I had a little accident with my car and could not attend, in fact it burned to the ground. Anyway, I posted a thing to attract the attention of anyone interested in deperting from socal, but got no reponses. Anyway, where exactly are you from?
Is there a big car show this year? I saw a flyer at one of the bars here in St. Louis and the bands didn't seem all that great. I hear it's a fashion show. Hope you see some fine automobiles.
Naw... I heard it was pretty good when it came too good bands and from what I've seen from shots on the net, there are some nice cars that come down there. I'd love to make it this year, but Paso is a MUST.
We went last year for the first time, from the UK. Had an absolute ball. Can't make it this year, but were already booking up for 2005.
I am flying in the 8th and staying at the mirage- I will probably be at the car show only though- 1st time to vegas so I want to check out the hover dam and other stuff. Is the car show on Saturday?
Car show is Saturday only. If you're going to see the Hoover Dam and/or Lake Mead, don't be fooled by the weather in LV. We went last year, did VLV, then had a few days to kill. Got a coach trip...left Vegas in 80 degree temperatures, arrived at Lake Mead and it was snowing! We were in t-shirts and shorts.... Take a big coat.
[ QUOTE ] Anyway, where exactly are you from? [/ QUOTE ] Originally from London, England. Moved to Cambell, CA. Near San Francisco. We are leaving here Wednesday 8th & driving, staying at The Orleans. Coming home Monday. Looking forward to it, we went to The Rhythm Riot in November back home in the UK, had a ball, Tom Ingram (the guy who runs VLV) was in the apartment next to our's! The band line up is a killer, I have heard that it's a bit of a fashion show, but I have several friend's coming over for the show from home to hang out with We will all have to arrange a time/place & meet up when we go! Check out the Viva Las Vegas website for full details. Dave
Im going this year... I'll be in Cali right before and right after VLV as well. Filming chops, bobbers, and customs for the Choppahead DVD....
Anyone from Florida driving? I've been wanting to go to this one Since I went to Paso Robles 3 years ago! I'd drive my ol' Dodge, but I don't know if I'll have it sorted out by then.
[ QUOTE ] I'm going, the car show is great, the bands are allright, and it's a HUGE fashion show! [/ QUOTE ] Fashion...whats that Whats wrong with T shirts, Blue Jeans & Motorcycle Boots?? (yeah, I know its the words to Johnny Valentine)
I'm all over it like a bum on a ham sandwich. Leaving from Northern Southern California Wednesdayish. -jf
It's not really the guys, (well, some of them), it's the girls that change clothes three or four times a day!! I haven't got anything against them, but it seems like they are to wrapped up in what they are wearing to have a good time, you know? Some of the guys are guilty of that too though. But the people who are the most fun, (and least "dressed up"), hang out by the cars anyway.
[ QUOTE ] Leaving from Northern Southern California Wednesdayish. -jf [/ QUOTE ] We are taking the (modern) car wednesday as we wanna make the Pre VLV show on Wed. New Frontier Casino ,Gilleys Bar Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas. Omar and the stringpoppers,Darrel Higham,Mean Devils,Roy Kay,Danny SAntos, howlin AL, DJs REB Cosmic Keith,Fancy Dan,Satoshi.show starts 8.00
It can be a fasion show, but it's real easy to ignore all the rockabilly stuff if that isn't your thing. If you like rockabilly and swing, the bands would be great (I guess), but if you like rock and roll, you'll be dissapointed. However, you don't have to buy the $80? wrist band and go into the ballroom. The car show has an official day, but there's cars in the fenced area every day. What you might miss on Saturday are locals. I wouldn't worry about it; there's lots of cars every day, and burnout at night. Booze too. We're going to have a freight train of heapwrecks, and should get there Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Tackett -you can probably find something fun, even if you aren't into the scene
has anyone actually met someone that is into the "scene"? Let me tell you, it's wonderful. They dont bother with stupid questions about my hotrod or bore me with details of their stupid project at home. I think the true scenster is under-rated. I especially like the mohawk pomp guys. And chicks with Betty Page haircuts are great. Fantastic! Check out the cars, the scensters wont bother you, the wannabe gear head Clay Smith Cams shirt cuffed jean engineer boot guys will.
I don't care about the fashion show, and I like most of the music. I got a kick out of the "scensters", and you're right about them not bugging you about your cars, other then the occasinal "pin-up queen" wanting a pic with your car, but 9 times out of 10, they don't ask anyway, just start leaning all over the car. (Which I don't mind, unless they are a, what did you call them, orcabetty?)

Not into the 'fashion victim' thing either...I've looked this way for over 20 years now, its so funny when you see the 'new a billys' looking & saying...thats not a vintage (Insert item of clothing) you are wearing...and I turn round & ask if they dress that way all the time...they usually say no...And I reply, well i do! Me, I'm going for the car show, the music & the booze...got a few friends coming over from the UK as well, so that will be cool. We all should meet up on Saturday at the show at a certain time, say Hi & hang out & talk cars....No dumb ass questions tho!

Live off Hamilton, near (very near) the Elephant Bar, by Home Depot. Think I have seen the 53..but not 100% Do you ever get to happy days cruise nights? Its fairly local, so I go when I can to take pix etc..... Hopefully see you there soon as the weather improves! if not, the LAST Thursday of the month, I can be found at Orchard Valley Coffee in Campbell, hanging out with the local Ducati Monster guys... 7.30 onwards, if you care to join us one evening. Dave
[ QUOTE ] Where exactly are you leaving from? I am heading out from Temecula, CA about 60 miles north of San Diego. [/ QUOTE ] We got a few cars leaving from Huntington Beach, and a few leaving from the Antelope Valley. We'd like to hit the pre-VLV festivities, but there are no guarantees. We've got an assembly of some of the rattiest homegrown cars out there, so it's a huge gamble as to when we're actually gonna get there. Our cars are not catalog bought. There's definitely the potential that we'll be paying our dues while making the pilgrimage. ....which makes me a little hesitant to extend an invitation. The more the merrier, of course, and it's nice rolling in with a bunch of other heads. ...but I wouldn't want to hold a guy up with our shitbox shenanigans (tm). Keep in touch if you like and we'll coordinate. RE: the scene I dig it. I'm not into it, and frequently feel like I don't fit in 'cause I'm just a redneck car guy with about as much fashion sense as peewee fucking herman. ....but I really love being around people who are truly passionate about what they're into - and that can be damn near anything. What you find at VLV is a small collection of the most passionate: guys like us who are willing to sit in a hot, black, loud, carbon-monoxide turdcan for six hours; chicks that have searched high and low for months on end to assemble 'the' perfect, vintage correct hair, makeup, clothing, shoe, stocking, and hairpiece look for Saturday night. Of course, for me, it's still mainly about the cars. I wouldn't go if it weren't for the Shifters' show. -jf
