Event Coverage Is this dying out, what's next?

  1. I buy almost zero new stuff, pay very little for parts I refurbish for use. You just have to look and be creative. I’m the cheapest guy I know.

  2. Really? You ever drill a hole in nickel because a washer cost 7 cents?;)

I get real satisfaction fiding rebuilding and reusing old quality parts.

  4. Nope. I will buy hardware and new stuff I have no choice, I will not buy fancy aftermarket parts or pre made wiring harnesses etc, cars can still be built relatively cheaply if you are determined enough.

I must say, the turnout at the NSRA northeast national in VT was much better this year than any year since 2019...in part thanks to the many Canadian hot rodders that came down.
This is one of the coolest Canadian hot rods there...

  6. I've spent the night in the bed of my Elco, in the light rain at the Pomona swap meet in the mid 90s, same inside the cushy panel truck (later 90s and a few different panels ago). I've recently done a 28-32 hour day (2 different times) to drive to swap meets and turn around and drive back (Turlock was one). I really want to go to Carlisle and Hershey one day. I might have to give Pomona another try, but it's really turned into a toys, clothes, new shiny car parts type of swap meet....just kinda feels off to me.

I'm kinda weird, but I feel at home or most comfortable at car swap meets or junkyards (even more then driving IF traffic is really bad).....it's the smell of parts, the visual stimuli, the history, the untold tales...even if I don't find anything it's great. I get pretty down if I don't get to go or they start closing down (like the Big 3, I REALLY miss that one).

When I'm at a car swap meet or junkyard all is right in the world.

Yes, but only on company time!:p

On the other hand, try buying a copper nickel washer. They are a lot more than seven cents!

Yep, I always thought that '41 hubcaps were something special. That final touch that completes it.
