I have two Australian BXOV-2 carbs on my Ute and I need accelerator pump plungers for them. Does anyone gave any connections on where I could find parts? I had them built in Australia and both American carbs parts dealers that I found only have the larger plungers. I mostly need the leather cups actually. Stromberg 385401
I am not sure if this helps, I did a quick google search https://cl***iccarbs.com.au/Cl***ic...-listed-by-manufacturer-/Stromberg-Australian Remember these are AUD prices so a bit cheaper than they look to the US person. It should start the ball rolling and maybe someone has dealt with this mob. Steve
Two options for you. If you want brand-spanking new ones, these guys can sell them to you: Carburettor Service Company 240 Parramatta Road Burwood NSW 2134 Telephone +61297474066. If you don't mind second-hand ones, I have plenty that you are welcome to for free. Send me your name and address and I'll post some to you, gratis. Cheers, Harv
Normally something small would be sent in a bubble envelope but not to long ago i read somewhere that parts in envelopes to U.S.A. are a no-no. Must be a parcel with customs declaration.
My local post office is tolerant of the stupid **** I post, and help me with the rules (had them scratching their heads when I posted a couple of hundred individual grey motor head gaskets ). If drumyn29 wants them, I'll check with them before I post it the wrong way and end up on some kind of watch-list. Cheers, Harv
Quick check please. In the early model BX carbs, the float bowl was not externally vented (the vent was made through the air horn). Later carbs were fitted with idle vent valves (sometimes referred to as anti-percolator valves). The idle vent valves ***embly is shown in the left image of the diagram below. It consists of a seat fitted into the top of the air horn directly above the accelerator pump stem. The valve seat is fitted with a valve stem and spring from underneath, then a valve “washer” is screwed on from above. The aim of the idle vent valve is to vent buildup of vapours that form in the float chamber during idle under hot conditions, as this type of percolation (fuel boiling) in the fuel discharge system can cause poor idle and hard hot-starting. At idle, the accelerator pump stem rises upwards, and opens the valve. When moving away from idle, the accelerator pump stem drops downwards, allowing the idle vent valve to close. Later model carbs tend to vent the fuel bowl through a carbon canister to minimize emissions and have a different idle vent valve. Do your carbs have an idle vent valve, similar to the middle image in the diagram below? The reason that this is an important question is that the accelerator pump stems are different. If there is a vent valve, the pump stem has is bit longer. The pump stem shown in the right image above has an extra "knob" (circled in green) to extend the length. If you are rebuilding a carb with the idle vent valve, you leave the knob in place. If your carb does not have an idle vent valve, you snap the knob off. If your carb has an idle vent valve, I will need to find you an accelerator pump that still has the knob. Cheers, Harv
Coolio. That will make it easier to find some accelerator pump stems in my stash. Aiming to get them into the post for you on Monday. Cheers, Harv
Boy, a tech article on how to form leather cups from a piece of offcut leather would be neat... Anyone?
Posted off for you today via Aussie Post. Have PM'd you the tracking number. Let us know how you go. Cheers, Harv
A quick check-in. Did the pair of pump stems I sent you solve your problem? Enquiring minds want to know cheers, Harv
You saved the day and might be helping others down the road. I installed yours and then sent my junk ones off to a local American carb parts guy on the H.A.M.B so he can reproduce that style. AUSSIE'S RULE!!
