Need choosing a cam. 350 flattops. 1968 camel heads 1.94, weiand single 4 tunnel ram with 650 holley dp. Turbo 400, 2400 stall. 1957 chevy rear end 3.73 or 4.11. 28in rear tires. It's a 38 plymouth coupe g***er. Want to cruise, car show, drag strip. Thanks.
Need more info from you. What's your max engine rpm, and what is your intended shift rpm?? You want no maintenance hydraulic roller, or a solid flat tappet or solid roller?? I'm not even going to suggest a rotten hydraulic flat tappet. Cruise and car show more important that drag strip use, or the other way around?? I'd guess you don't want to know....but the single 4 tunnel rams are rotten power makers....middle 4 cylinders always rich, end four always lean. You would be better off with a good big single plane.
Pick up the phone and call Bullet Cams and get the right camshaft for your engine/car combination. I would never walk into a huge room and ask what camshaft I should buy; I don't want everyone's opinion; I want the truth direct from the cam engineers.... not some catalog cam.
480-490 lift 280-290 duration hydraulic tappet cam is good all around power. Close match to your 2400 stall converter. Makes power up until your valve springs float. However, don't hate me if you hate it
I was gonna suggest a HE 268 Comp cam but your engine is gonna have pretty high compression. Maybe an XE 268 or even the L46 GM cam. These are pretty mild but still have a little Rump at idle.
That is what I have in my 355, a 268/276 grind and I like it. The lobe center is 112 degrees, so not a big lope, but a strong pull to it. I run a 3.89 rear with a 2.52 manual 1st gear. I went with the Lunati rockers too. I have a Holley 700 DP, Dart aluminum heads and dual plane intake. CR is close to 10:1.
I almost got an XE268 but read that it was noisy under the valve covers. The Voodoo, same grind, is quiet.
