After major life changes I’m finally getting back on my hot rod project that started with a model a frame and no real plan. Now I’m back and more focused and have a traditional build in the works. Basically I’m going for a car that someone started in the forties and it just kept getting different mods up into the 60’s… basically I’m allowing myself to have mods and parts through 1966 (the year I was born). If that’s not traditional enough for this sub-forum let me know and I’ll move it. I’ll be documenting the build on my YouTube channel too. Let’s face it I’m not Iron Trap Garage but I hope you’ll consider watching along and subscribing (Link at the bottom of this post) Here’s what I have so far: 26/27 Ford Model T Touring Model A Frame & Front end, spindles, etc 1952 Flathead/repro dual carb manifold 1946 Ford truck open drive banjo Juice brakes 4 Holley 94’s (hopefully I’ll get two good ones out of them) 59 Sprite dash and Smith gauges and generator for the mechanical tach 15” x 5” smooth front wheels 15” x6” smooth Lincoln Premier wheels for the rear Split 40 something wishbones Pair of Dietz 820D headlights and 50’s Lucas taillights And I can’t remember what all else right now so you’ll just have to subscribe and follow along to see how it all comes out! Hope too hear from folks, I could use the encouragement! Here’s the YouTube link:
I’ve read a lot of old posts about them…. Multi carbs lower the manifold vacuum so you have to use power valves that open at lower vacuum or else they’ll stay open and you run rich all the time. Seems to be the consensus to run slightly smaller jets as well. That’s the plan at least for now.
The next chapter of my 1927 Ford Model T touring hot rod story is up on YouTube! Hope you guys will want to check it out! Feel free to comment with criticism, encouragement or words of advice because I need them. I know I have a lot to learn and a long way to go but if you’re so inclined please consider subscribing and following along… Thanks!
Still plodding along… converting my 1946 truck parallel leaf open drive banjo to transverse Model A spring:
Trial and error continues but I’ve finally got a rolling chassis now that I got my front end installed…
Got my flathead V8 mounted in the chassis. Made the front V8 motor mounts out of the rear motor mounts for the Model A four cylinder:
Just an updated picture of my build (but I’m still putting the details on my YouTube channel) since I haven’t updated here in some time. This spring I found an old 3” dropped Model A axles so I reworked the front end, I got all my shocks mounted, headlights too, started putting the body back together and figured out the steering. Still a long way to go but at least I’m making slow progress.
The motor mounts? Yeah they’ve already collapsed, where do you get the ones with metal bands? I haven’t seen them.
CE used to have them. I would try Pete and Jakes. I think I have some that I cut bands for out of tubing on the shelf as well. Guys have also replaced with UMHW plastic or hockey pucks.
