I awoke yesterday morning from my slumber in brooklyn at my girlfriends house to make my trek to work. As i set foot in my car, i noticed a big gaping hole in my dash. A hole once occupied by my cd player. With wires crawling out of my dash left and right, I realized that I had been robbed of my CD player. Upon further inspection, I realized all of my cds and 2 packs of ciggarettes were gone too. No doubt the cunning work of a young talented welfare recieving thief, seeing as the gauges, tach, shift knob, etc. were still in place.

If anyone in the area knows anything I ask you to put your feelers out. It happened Friday night to Saturday morning in Williamsburg just off Metropolitan Ave. If it were a regular car i wouldnt mind as much, but for someone to break into an old car like mine kills me.

    Sucks!!!! I hate these bastards!
You cant leave anything in your car improve the stereo or it will be gone.
I went through stereo upgrades and radar detectors being stolen. Now I dont buy anything and leave it in the car. My nieces and nephews cars are always getting broken into unless you get some loud ass alarm and park it outside the window where you can see it these bastards will always feed upon your nice stuff.
Personally I think a thief desereves a shot to the head but until then we play this game of let them go after the weaker prey.
Totally sucks though sorry to hear it.

I take broken glass and razor blades and glue them in strategic places all over the backside of the stereo, and underneath it, onto glue razor blades into the wiring harness.....

I have found my stereo tampered with twice since I started doing this, and had to clean up a little blood, but I have had the same deck for almost four years now... :D

happened to me a few years back. I figure it could have been worse, I could have heard the glass breaking and caught them.

either the bad guys or myself could have ended up seriously hurt, dead or in jail....of course I'm more concerned with me than the crooks. the odds of them doing time for this would be slim. the odds of me doing time for assault or something would be great.

the world would be a better place if you could just shoot these bastards who rip you off, but crooks have rights.

No one has ever tried to steal my AM/FM cassette deck, and no one has tried to steal my original AM with FM converter. Maybe there's a lesson in that...

I had my double din nav unit stolen one month after it was installed. Had all kinds of thoughts of violence and carbomb traps and such...insurance covered most of it and installed a new one. I tore apart a factory radio with cassette and used just the faceplate as a cover attached with a small piece of velcro.....just have to be sure the fake cover is installed when I park it,but so far it has been in the truck 8 months! (hope the fucking thieves aren't reading this cuz the other preventative measures I took could hurt somebody!)

Sorry to hear about the break in, that sucks. See I eliminated the problem by having my music come from my exhaust. So far, so good, I haven't seen any black market Smittys, so I think I'm safe.

My buddy once caught a guy "in the act" - he proceeded to beat the guy senseless eventually knocking him out. He then called the cops and when they came they asked him what happened. He told them he didn't know - he walked out to his car and found the guy in there all bloody and unconscious. The cops smiled and my buddy went on his merry way.

You got to get your terms right:

    1. Robbery is when someone sticks a gun in your face.
    2. Burglary is when someone steals your shit when you are asleep.

Check the pawn shops in your area. It was probably there by Sat. afternoon. Sounds like it was dumb-ass kids or druggies looking for a quick & easy buck.

Its probably in your local crack houses stash now.
We had two crack heads cruising our neighborhood looking for anything to snatch. I caught them in the neighbors driveway steeling his landscape lights. I went after them and they took off all I got was a description of the car. I couldnt see the plate number. About two days went by and the cops arrested a couple of crack dealers and found some landscape lights. The guy got his lights back but this goes to show you what people are willing to do for crack.

There is a Japanese driver at my work, whose father was a martial arts master & instructer for the US Marines, he started teaching him when he was still in diapers-- he learned well.
He caught 3 guys trying to steal his neighbors car one night not long ago, they stupidly thought they would kick the shit out of him & then finish taking the car.
The cops thanked him for "aprehending" the three guys as the ambulance hauled them off--- between them they had 4 fractured legs , a broken wrist, 2 badly bruised adams apples & numerous cuts , contusions & scrapes.

There is some concern here in LV about our cops going overboard in using
" burglary" charges -- they are charging almost any theft as a burgulary --- even so much as stealing a can of soda at a 7/11 --- shoplifiting is a misdemeanor --burglary is a felony .
Makes someone eligable for 10 years for a soda!! --provided you survive the shooting --which they do almost daily --- don't f#*K with a LV COP!!!

I've had my stereo stolen even when I took the faceplate. I soldered fish hooks on the replacement. No blood stains on my carpet, so nobody's tried to steal it yet.

That happened to me once... but I got lucky... I went out to my car as the guy was stealing it. The guys legs were hanging out of the car... so I was so pissed I grabbed the door and slammed it. Needless to say I was able to save the CD player. Cost me a window and some interior parts. Got lucky my temper didn't get me in trouble...

Good, no one needs to be stealing sodas from the gas station either.

I like small country towns too, and I've been using a lot of old tape decks and FM converters whenever possible.

The I-Pod or other MP3 players is a great way to have stereo tunes in an old car without having to have a head deck in the dash to steal. I have a phone now with FM and MP3 that's gonna be the stereo in all my cars, no need to cut the dash for an ugly, modern CD player that could get stolen anyway.

Some of the fishhooks and razor blade ideas are neat as well, although I'm up under my dash in some cars enough that it'll probably only hurt me.

I used to have a girlfriend running a Methodist Church farther down Metropolitan in Queens...she had an Olds Cutlass way back when those were at the top of the thieves' hit parade every year.
After the first attempted theft, I managed to steal-proof the car but never figgered out a way to keep them from getting in and breaking the column before discovering car wouldn't go...
Went through 4 columns and some outer door locks in two years...cops never even responded when she called in the attempts. I had to bring in columns from Joisey, as intact GM columns were like gold to NYC junkyards.
I met New Yorkers in my favorite Jersey junkyard combing the furrin car section and buying up ALL the intact Toyota and Honda columns for the endless demand in NYC on both sides of the law...
Anyway, I betcha I can change out a GM A or G body steering column faster than anybody on the HAMB!

Put the stock radio back in, put the new CD player in the glove box.

I'm with Squablow - an MP3 player is a relatively inexpensive way to take your tunes with you and not deface your car either ... although razor blades and fish hooks sounds like a wholelotta fun..

  24. I mounted mine set back into the dash about and inch and cut the old faceplate off the old AM radio and made it removeable, held in by clips. Then I never locked my doors... It was a convertible. My speaker box was removeable too.

...Because CD players are cheaper than convertible tops... or window glass.

Someone broke into my 20 year old daily driver acouple of years ago and tried to pry the Radio Shack cassette deck out of the dash. He was unsuccessful, and was not smart enough to steal my tools or the A/C compressor, new and in the box with the receipt. I guess it was too heavy for a lazy thief to carry.

Yeah in this part of the world if that happens and you catch them in the act you can beat the shit out of them as long as you never tell the police exactly what happend, hell they would probably hold the stupid fucker for ya. And just close their eyes ao they could say that they saw nothing. Of course around here they are probably stealing it for drugs or some shit Thats why I to love small town America...

Hell here if you even catch someone on or in your property you can shoot them. In Oklahoma its called probable cause. I hate these kind of sleezy no good mother fuckers. Sorry for your lose man I hope you get a chance at these retards!!!

  28. Its in a crack house for sure.

I had this happen in a small town. My dad woke me up and said someone is in your car. So I look out my dad's bedroom window and sure enough there is someone getting into my car. Well I went out the back door and told dad to call the cops. He was on his knees with the door open and had his upper body ripping on the tape deck. Well I kicked the door and then held it in while he balled his eyes out and tried to muster enough ability to beg me to stop putting pressure on the door. The cops showed up and arrested him he did a number on the console it was trashed beyond repair.

The worst part was he had come by earlier in the day to look at a Dodge truck I was selling and got pissed cause I would not let him make 100.00 a month payments for 6 months on the truck. I would have done it if he would have left the truck at my place. No money no truck its that simple.

  29. I've bought cassette decks and stuff so cheap I can't even imagine why one would be worth stealing. I looked at a '78 Cutlass for a parts car a guy offered me the other day and it had a fairly decent stereo in it that felt like if I pulled hard it would come right out. I couldn't believe it was still there, the car was by a gravel pile behind the town gas pumps, but a guy on foot could park close enough to still be in and out and never be seen. Kids had already busted the windshield in it.

But in the spring I bought like 6 of them for $20, two CD, one a factory, the rest tapes. I kept the two aftermarket tapedecks, sold one factory deck the next day for the same $20, the good CD doesn't seem to work, and no one's made an offer on the others.

The one in my Suburban, I got it with a CD player adapter at the flea market for $10 from a guy with selling computer parts... I finally figured out why it was so cheap when I dug up the walkman CD player and tried it - for whatever reason it keeps trying to flip sides instead of playing. But it works great with regular tapes.

The face comes off and I've never bothered to take it off. Hasn't been a problem yet and it's in it's second vehicle.

I'm thinking about putting it overhead in the AA should I get that far. I have a '39 Buick glovebox door someone modified that a regular knob-style deck would bolt right into, might make a nice overhead unit. They certainly seem to have the space up there.

I guess if you had a fancy new one that used would still bring $50 or $80 it might be worth it to steal, but if I were buying I wouldn't buy a used one for $80 when you can get a new CD player now for like $100 - and some of the crappier ones are even less than that. If I had like a $500 head unit, I'd hide it under some kind of phony panel, the Riviera console I have for my '50 Chevy has a nice ashtray door and I don't smoke, so it might work good.

Man that sucks. My gilfriends 89 civic got 2 windows busted last week just right around the corner from my house. Her passenger door is kind of messed up and has to be opened from the inside so i guess the crackhead got frustrated and broke the second rear quarter window. All this just to steal a little bag of makeup and the faceplate of the radio which is no good without the rest of it!?!?!?!?????
I wish i would have cought them. I have a big Machette from the philipines right be the front door, thats the first thing i would have grabbed...
