I’ve followed your Facebook posts, and I really dig this truck. However, I second the no chopped top sentiment. I think it really throws off the proportions. I did, however, see I guy with a white 58 (I think it was a 58) at a Mooneyes car show once with a clean chop. He just chopped the very top to where it was almost flush with the windshield. Still, I’m not a fan of the chop. Anyway, here’s my pile:

Thanks man, I think I agree about the chop. Your truck looks good. I'm thinking about doing an orange color like yours? I think? Lol can't tell in the pic

  3. i dont think that the pink is bad, rather it lacks accent it needs more white. maybe some scallops? or some pin striping with two tone?

A lot of people like it (outside of the forum lol) but it got old for me instantly. You're probably right about adding some things to break it up though

It’s a sealed primer. It cracks easy though. I would go with something like a Hot Rod Flat if I were you. I’m really happy with the color though, and other people seem to like it too.

Some 57 dodge lancer center caps on 56 Oldsmobile hubcaps. Still thinking of more ideas for them, kinda want them to be wild 20221027_195343.jpg

What if you paint the center part body color?

I like it. I like the '58 Chevy bumper on the front and the 51-52 Plymouth teeth, but that '57 Ford front bumper, could that possibly work on the rear? The step down in the middle really looks like a pickup truck bumper, feels like it'd be a natural, although it might not be square enough to work there. I do like it though.

I like the reverse lights and I think the blisters in the quarters will be a good spot to accent with pinstriping or if you end up painting panels on it.

I agree with the others that say it does not need a chop. Those proportions are already good.

I realize it would be near impossible to do at this point but if I had all the time and ambition in the world I'd cut the whole tail section off of the box, tailgate included, and tilt it forward at the top just a few degrees so the back of the box had the same angle as the roof posts.

Thank you, yes the fairlane bumper is too rounded. I agree with pinstriping on the reverse light bulge or whatever haha. And yes, I've seen a guy angle the whole rear of the bed and it looked cool. But I'm in too deep to do something like that lol

Food for thought how about instead of the spear give it the same shape as the revel line on the side of the hood then bring it down to meet the stock body line of the box? Anway like were its going.

I do like that idea a lot. But the way they come off the truck more and more as it goes back would almost be impossible to blend with the body line

I wouldn't bring the bottom flush with the original style line of the box then tapper back the front to blend.

Love your project! Don’t apologize for the pink. At least you were brave enough to go with a color. Most around here use flat black and think that looks cool. But back in the day vehicles were painted a rainbow of colors and that is what evokes such nostalgia when someone sees it again. Enough on that.

I think I’d look next for some sort of hard tonneau cover with body lines to match the front of the truck. Maybe another hood cut down and used upside down so you were looking at the inside?

Thank you, I agree and that's why I picked a more unusual color. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the paint now. That hood idea is pretty cool, it's way shorter then the bed so idk how much work it would take. I am looking for another hood so we'll see if I find one I might mess around with that idea

man stoked to see this project!

I personally love pink just not so sure on that shade?

what about painting the truck appliance white with pink fogging around the edges with a set of chrome reverse steelies with pin whites?

also I like where youre going with the 58 front bumper but it seems like it maybe needs to go a little higher?

and for what its worth while I appreciate youre out of the box thinking Im not the biggest fan of the grill.

it would be some work but i think a tubed phantom grill would be amazing, have the headlights tucked in behind a grill that goes all the way across!!!!

    just my opinion :)

oh and a set of thunderbird buckets with a swing away thunderbird column would look killer too!!!!

or a chrome 55-57 thunderbird column!!!!!

Thanks a lot man, @Stogy gave me a good option for the pink that I'm going to post here, similar to what you said.

I've had a few people say to raise the bumper, but I hate how high it would be compared to the rest of the body. I'm going to fill those weird holes behind it and hope that makes it flow better.
I've been looking for seats on marketplace so we'll see what I find. Tube grill has been a consideration. Or a 59 buick grill. And yes to bellflowers or something similar.
