Don't rush into it if it is solid. It ain't like you have to feed it and clean the cage every night.

Build it and run er! Nothing wrong with that car at all. Besides, being a bit different is a good thing, theres already a TON of Ford's out in there. Just enjoy it, once you start working on it it will grow on you. I never really cared for the looks of my 41 Ford as it was in the family as I was growing up. But now it's mine and I'm getting hours put in on it with the resurrection I LOVE IT! Funny how that works....

Make it a driver, and drive it.
If you really don't like it afterwards, and don't have a pile of money into it making it a driver, it wouldn't be hard to sell in the spring. You could get all your money back out of it, as long as you don't try to get rich from it. A running driving car sells better then a pile of parts that look like a car.
It might be a dream come true for a young family with a couple of kids to get an old car they can safely ride around in.

If my memory is correct? Tex Smit did a build on a 1948 Chrysler. Maybe you could look in to that.

  8. Unless that’s what it takes to get it out on the road…. Better off driving it around having fun in a weird / neat old car than leaving it to rot. I’ve been a Mopar guy for along time & would still rather see one out there on the road with the “wrong” engine, vs it never hitting the road again.

  10. Just wanted to say thank you to you guys for the ideas with the '48. As straight and solid as the car was I just couldn't get very excited about that particular car for some reason. I already have a '40 Desoto project for my suicide door itch lol. So I ended up giving the car to a good friend of mine and bought his 100% complete and original '59 Mercury Park Lane instead. If anyone is interested in the '48 I'm sure he'll be selling it, we're in SE Idaho.

  15. I asked him. He said he had no idea, it was an Ebay purchase and has no markings...
He did mention the bumpers and grill were 3D printed.

I got mine up and running/driving. Very, very comfortable ride. Original engine has plenty of power for a stock cruiser. It still needs a few things, but I'll get to it as health and time permits. I've already had a request to use it as a prop for wedding pictures. Everyone around here loves it. One re-paint seems to be the correct purple (?) color. I will scuff and clear coat it to help protect it. Recent new interior, too. I lost one of the nice dog dish hub caps. If anyone has a nice spare, I'd like to hear from you. I love to drive this car. :) DSCF0161.JPG DSCF0160.JPG

Just Found this thread. Looked at Post #17 thought not a bad looking car. Then look at Post #26 and thought that does not look nice. Agree with what has been said about turning it into a pick and got to agree something along the lines of the pickup in Post #26 would turn the Beast into a real nice looking truck.

Hi Craig, here in Mapleton Utah, I have lots and lots of 1948 Chrysler Windsor Parts and I notice that you had a Parts Car. Could you use a full Interior, Bumpers, Brightwork, and Windows at no cost to you!!!
