Hey guys I've got an old 1955 265 chevy block. Been sitting outside a few years. Has the crank still in it but nothing else. Looks usable. If anyone is close I'd give it away. Or should I just toss it? I have a hard time throwing away anything! Lol
Hopefully someone will give it a new home and use it in a project. I know the feeling about throwing things away. I have two 40' storage containers full of stuff.
FWIW, these days it costs more to rebuild a free 265" than it does to pay $100 for a 350" core. The later engine can be dressed to look period-correct if that's a must. Having said that, a rich guy restoring a period-correct-late-'50s sports racer insisted on a date-coded 265" bored to 283", even though it would cost more, be weaker and make less horsepower and once in the car no one would ever be able to spot the difference. His money, his build, his decision. jack vines
All 265" engines had forged 3" throw cranks which can be used to build a clone 302" sbc using a small journal 327". If the crank is good, it alone has value of around $150.
I'm with the concept that it might serve best as a crank donor for a project but there is always that one guy who wants a 55 265 for his build and is willing to spend the coin to make it work and so be it. It could at least be a display motor for someone and maybe the guy who has a batch of 55 Chevys in his garage.
Kinda a unique block only one cast without a oil filter. Had a couple over the years if you wanted an oil filter you had to pay extra for a canister type that sit on the intake manifold. Otherwise you just got a oil bath air cleaner to do the job.
