I love the posts where members mock NCRS for all of their restoration commandments and almost religious commitment to them, but we have just as strict rules and are just as maniacal about them being followed. I think NCRS is actually easier to adhere to than "Traditional Hot Rodding", they have little books with casting numbers and codes, we have opinions, blurry B&W photos aging memories and nostalgia.

NCRS flames people for hacking up their vettes, we flame 'em for hot rodding a GTO. Not a lot of difference sometimes.

The OP whacked the bee's nest and ran. It's metal. Cut it up. Radius the wheelwells, straight axle, BBC and light 'em up!

  9. What's the big deal? Drop the Chevy in, drive it, pull the Chevy out, sell it. Move on with life.

Back in the fall of '78, we put a GTO motor in a Chevelle, and gave it some Pontiac Excitement. Friends criticized it roundly.

Funny, nobody bats an eyelash over a Chevy engine in a Ford, but mention putting one in another GM product and **** hits the fan. Unbelievable.

He received the typical H.A.M.B. welcoming. He also didn't fill in his bio. Did he read the forum rules?
Did he check for other threads before he posted to answer his question?
These are comments that are typically asked.

I was just messin around at first but Ive never been so motivated to throw this 600hp BBC in our 65 Goat... Ive been needing a home for it since we s****ped our drag car project. GTO's just sitting there begging to hit the streets again. Im a poor boy with more projects then money and Ive kinda grown to like watching the purists die a little inside when a hot rodder breaks thier rules.. Cant wait to see the reaction when I tell em its a real GTO not a clone !! Then I'll lower it and put Astro Supremes on it & everyones gonna hate me ! :)

    It's not about being a purists.......put a 455, a 421, a 428, a 400 in it. God it's so boring for everyone to put a Chevy in everything.

I cut my Pontiac all up but I'd never put anything but a Pontiac in it.

All the same, it was a fake first post to start with and the OP succeeded in what they set out to do.

If you had received the ration of **** the OP did you would not have returned either. The OP was asking about a problem and wanted a solution.......He did not deserve the treatment he got.

I agree. This can be a pretty cold crowd. To be fair, he did ask about a '64, well within the rules. I had a 396 Chevy in an OT '66 Goat, but I didn't do it on purpose. I had a good engine in a POS '65 Impala, and happened to find a "back row beauty" with a blown (not supercharged :D) 396 already in it! Talk about serendipity! A weekend later I had a car that I drove for several years...

:DYeah, I am shocked...thought this was gonna get crushed as taboo muscle car stuff. If this was a '66 GTO all hell would have broke loose. A '65 and '66 GTO are as similar as a '55 Chevy to a '56...

My head hurts. The goat will never be a concours restoration. Build it with whatever he wants. It's all reversible as it's a drop in. Drive the **** out of it instead of fussing about it.

Glad I didn’t ask what would be needed to put a flathead in a Chevy 2.

Maybe due to high cost and limited availability the OP would have to rob Peter to pay Paul for it to be affordable. Sadly, if you rob Peter to pay Paul Peter gets sore. How you gonna get it done with a sore Peter?

What are the best snow tires for a corvette? I’ve always wanted a corvette for a winter beater just to piss off the crazy corvette guys.

I can tell you that a vette ****s in snow over about 3 inches, well at least the 68 up ones do. i bet a 50's early 60s one would be fun!

  29. When I had my 68, L78-15 studded snows worked pretty well. But given the front end design, the engine compartment would get packed with snow (which was a *****). Get to work, pop the hood, brush the snow/slush off the dist. and hope like hell it didn't freeze too bad overnight. Foot room got pretty tight with three pedals and pair of snowmobile boots also. But to it's credit, the PIMA never left me stranded. When asked why I was driving a Vette to work in the winter I'd just say "You expect me to drive my GOOD car in this ****?"
