Hey guys, Anyone know where to get the rubber for running boards? (41 ford sedan) I've only found one source and they want 400 bones!!! There's gotta be a better option. Or what have you used? I was thinking about just getting some other kind of rubber and trim to fit and maybe riveting and glue on, but I sure would like to have the ribs on it so they're not slick in our rainy PNW weather here. The diamond plate looking rubber isn't an option, I feel it would look hokey. Ideas?
I think you need to ask a different question, like what would prevent me from using a earlier or later running board cover. Or maybe, what would a rock guard look like? Or maybe, how could I make that rock guard look ribbed for her pleasure.
Her in Germany you can buy ribbed rubber from the roll, maybe 10-15 bucks a meter. I made my trunk mat with it. I'm pretty sure that this is also available in the US. Just check some industrial suppliers, it's usually used for floors - or do a search for "Corrugated rubber runners". Frank
I would spend the bucks and get the correct ones. You won't regret it! I faced the same $$ issues years ago when I did my '40 boards. They still look like the day I did it. Cheap will always look cheap. Dave
Dave, I may get some down the road a ways. Maybe for now I'll just peel off what's left of the originals and wire wheel and paint. I still have a long ways to go before it's on the road, but hopefully by summer!
I have a new set for a 41 short door coupe somewhere in here, have not seen them in years! If they would work, I will look for them.
