I was worried about ya. Thought you were off to Tahiti!

well I did all my ‘prep work’ for a colonoscopy this morning. Since I thought the day was gonna be filled with people staring at my rump, I reckoned I’d share the wealth….

    Hello,

In late 1961, and heading into 1962, our dad was getting antsy for his every 4 year Buick Sedan exchange. He had been told by his friend in Los Angeles that a new model was on the horizon and that our dad should wait. But, in the mean time, he looked at his options. My brother and I even took him to several foreign car luxury dealers and that was a bust.

So, his friend had gotten an invitation a special event for So Cal drivers for our dad. A Chrysler Turbine Sedan came out and was offered to several So Cal drivers as a promotion. Our dad came home and told us about it. We had read of the rumored, futuristic design earlier and was all for it. Just think of the only Cchrysler Turbine car in Bixby Knolls or even at Lion’s Dragstrip? What cl***?

As we fiddled around, the offer was nice, we would get a new car and free maintenance in Los Angeles, too. But, our dad was a die hard Buick Sedan guy and waited it out until the fall of 1962, when he rolled into our Westside of Long Beach driveway with a new 1963 Buick Riviera. Now, both brothers were all over that car!!!

In more recent times, the thought was that since our dad was following us around with his 16mm movie camera for surfing movies of us at various surf spots, we thought he might as well drive up in a cool station wagon. The thought moved back to the 61-62 season…

A cool looking custom Chrysler Turbine Station Wagon. Just made for local So Cal beach adventures… Even those heavy longboards would have fit inside with ease. The experiment probably would have taken off with this station wagon version available to moms and kids, too.

But, to get away from that funny copper color, a favorite blue for our dad was selected.

    A chopped, lowered version?

Then even added in a two tone version with pinstripes and mag wheels to boot!!!

@Ron Funkhouser Yes, yes! Thank you to all whom, themselves, who's family and loved ones served and sacrificed for our liberty. May it never have been in vain!

  15. JNAKI, Cool drawings of the Chrysler turbine car. My parents took me to the 1964-65 Worlds fair. 20161005_211858.jpg I got to see and hear them run at the Chrysler exhibit. Yeah a wagon would have been very COOL! 20161007_073413.jpg As a CAR NUT Kid, they had to drag me away from all the neat futuristic cars. But G.M. had some of the coolest ones.

Still laughing, good catch—I had no idea! I saw the Impala at Spokane Goodguys last year and dug it immediately, resolving to use that rat vibe somewhere. Although an old fan of C&C I apparently missed that flick and the guy never mentioned the provenance.
