I was pondering my 1st visit to this awesome show and one mostly un noticed event stands out. It reminded me of why I like this **** so much. It happend on Sun morning around 8:15 to 8:30. I had spent all day saturday getting burned looking at the coolest **** I had ever seen. Woke up the next day and had to check out the rides before I had to fly back to phx. So I am strollin around the entrence area by the gr***. The bikes started to line the street and the couch had a tarp on it. Anyway I hear one hell of a racket rollin in. I sat back and watched the scene. EVERYONE stopped and watch this little roadster, all engine, no paint and strait pipes blast into the gr*** area. He wasn t goin fast, just purposeful. The hemi was loud, but sounded awesome. It shreded the silence. Better than the bands I heard the day before (no offense). The strait pipes pointed down to the ground shot gr*** into the air while he manuevered into its resting spot and shut it down. I recognized the car from his avatar...it was our very own Desoto. I remember one of his posts as being abit surly...the car fit him to a T. It gets better...he and his gal climb out and somebody yells "Loud enough for ya.".. I missed his response but I heard the next exchange. Another guy yells "well the Merc was clean"...Desoto replys..."thats what you get for havin one them california car dusters!" Maybe you had to be there but it struck me funny. The whole scene reminded me of one of the reasons I love the hot rod stuff so much. Only I have to dig it...if they dont ****m. BTW...Desoto if your readin this dont think I want to take windy walks with you.
Ha Ha that totally sounds like the **** he says. I don't don't know him too well either but he has some kick *** rides. The first time I saw his F-100 i was in the pisser at the PASO ROBLES A&W (like '97 or so) Anyways he was hanging with Rickyracer and he fired that ***** up and The water in the toilet was vibrating like in Jur***ic park. He took off like a ****** across the border into the night. Then like a year later at the Reverend Horton Heat Show he took one look at my friends' and my sorry attempt at being a rockabilly greaser car club amd he called us the Pharoahs and laughed..... That being said he helped us find a roof for my buds F-100 after we bothced up our first chop.....pretty cool for a guy you don't even know. That's the spirit of hot rodding I guess Long live Rick....Ha Ha ****ing car dusters.
awesome story... "thats what you get for havin one them california car dusters!" im still laughing about that.
Except for the exchange of words, sounds EXACTLY like B***'s entrance into the Lonestar Roundup this past April.
He went right by us (we were parked right up front) and the dust-dirt and gr*** clippings were flyin from those pipes. It was a cool entrance!
I had the pleasure of meeting Desoto when I was up in M*** last month. I was hoping to meet some Hambers in the area so I PM'd Desoto since he was in a nearby town and he invited me over. He had one of those garages you could just get lost in looking at all the cool/neat stuff. Had a great time with a true gear head. I know who to hit up if I ever have a hemi question. Heck of a guy! That's not one of the cars that he had though. Are we talking about the same person? Long white beard?
FRANK..... NOPE, THAT AINT ME ! I CANT GROW NO FACE HAIRS !! LOL IM IN CALIFORNY ALSO .... AND FOR THOSE WHO CARE ...... ITS A '30 SPORTS COUPE & THE LIL GIRL THAT WAS RID'IN SHOTGUN ?? WE'LL..... THAT THERE WAS MY DAUGHTER
I too had the pleasure of meeting DE SOTO. Super cool guy and that Hemi Sport Coupe is THE ****! PERFECT in my opinion!! Well done and I wish I could have been there for the entrance!
You are referring to Skip desoto's profile http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?u=174 DE SOTO's profile http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?userid=11221
yeah, desoto is a GREAT guy, helped me on several occasions, a REAL hot rodder... that being said his sports coupe will ALWAYS be better than mine, and i hate him for that, HAHAHHAHAHHA...
DE SOTO... I would really love that coupe if you sprayed painted them whites a little wider!!! jus kiddn! The car is perfect!
Ok, I just realized the difference in spelling. There is "DE SOTO" and there is "desoto". "desoto" is who lives in Ayer, MA that I met.
Ojai Rick has the best hair in hot rodding. I am quite envious as mine is getting kind of thin!! Also his sport coupe is pretty sweet. Jimmy White
He was at Kiwi Kevs BBQ. We were standing in the alley, when he pulled up with that blown, bare metal coupe behind him, might've been in front. Any ways,he blows through and gets out. One of the guys says"when you gonna put mufflers on that thing?" He says "why?". Right then I knew he was my kinda hotrodder. Just how much is "louder than ****" anyways?
That car had to spend the night at my house Saturday night, turns out the Ojai cops recognise the exhaust note when Rick tries to sneak back into town late at night. If you.ve never met Rick, he's a spitting image of Robert Mitchum!!
omg ojai rick has the kewlest car ive ever seen!!!!! it should be in like every magazine on the stands lol!!!!
