Agreed... real Hot Rod guys built and really used too. Thanks for the pictures to.

 

Out with the anemic - overheating flathead, and on the way to the junk yard to pick up a much more powerful OHV V-8 engine and transmission ... that's real Hot Rodding.

 

@AHotRod, if a car is a vintage gasser from the early 60s not a Hot Rod but meets all of the other criteria of this thread can it be shared here or are you wanting to stick to true Hot Rods?

 

I built this prize in late 1973 and started driving it in early 1974. It was my daily driver for about 6 years... to work, to college, National Guard meetings, and car club meetings.
The 'ol "Yellowbird" never was pretty or too sophisticated but it was dang fast... and quick!!

1940 Willys Coupe, bought as a stock body while working out of state in the early 60s. Then is was flat towed about 1500 miles behind a 56 Chevy to take it home once the job was over. It got a 327 and a Muncie 4 speed from newer wrecked car in a junk yard and a rear end out of a 55 Chevy. The rear end was the weak link. It eventually got a fuel injection unit off of a Corvette. The skinny front wheels were off of a Falcon Sprint. It was built to gas class rules with a 10% engine setback.

 

@elgringo71 .... Perfect! I know there were allot of cars put togather just like that all over this country and would love to see those pictures. I also know there were numerous like it that ended up in the Altered classes, I have several pictures of those.

These are the guys that taught me. I'm not rich by any means, and the only reason my cars are what could be considered traditional, or that I even have them is because I was able to buy the cast off parts, or abandoned cars cheap, or, in many cases I got them for free.

 

@327Eric .... I agree with you, they were the guys that helped me and would give me ideas and suggestions on parts to go out and find to do what I was wanting to do.

my good friend Nathan Sabel passed away this last week . this is a photo form about 1955 of his father with his first car a 40 ford in Evansville IN. said someone crossed the center line hit him & tore the dog house off the car I asked him about the 2 carbs and the slick front tire His reply was that's just how it was back then
