Hey guys. I’m finishing up rebuilding my 39 3 speed top loader & I’m having issues with the gears getting tight & locking up when I tighten the bolts down on the rear bearing retainer. I can’t for the life of me figure out what is happening. The gears rotate smoothly & work properly, but as soon as I tighten the bolts on the retainer everything locks up. Any help or suggestions would be great. Attached are some photos of the rebuilt gears. Maybe I did something wrong. I’m using
Thanks1933-34 bearing retainer & I’ve tried using a thicker gasket with no luck.

The roller bearing 7118 Did you make sure that it was the "SHORT" bearing of the 2,
I made that mistake doing mine with same results.

Ok. I took the trans apart & flipped the main shaft oil baffle. Looks like I installed it backwards. Installed it the same way I took it apart, but looking at how it was installed I believe it was installed backwards previously.this has corrected the problem. thanks for the help.

Thanks for getting back and telling us what solved the problem. So many times we are left hanging.
