Ok guys let’s see what you have this week. I’ll start with a rat fink my pal Terry painted for me 20 years ago. Sadly he has Alzheimer’s and doesn’t remember doing it.

I have always admired gold leaf work on a car.

    Hello,

As I was drawing various choices for a Thanksgiving theme inspired hot rod art, we happen to watch an old video of the rock group, Cheap Trick, a day earlier. So, the inspiration comes from Rick Neilsen’s Hamer Guitar as to the early flame pattern for a surf inspired station wagon. (a scary 1949 Cad hearse version from 1964)

The 1949 Cadillac Hearse would give the “roadies,” plenty of room for all of the extra guitars and boxes of picks. AND… to make it easier to load and unload, there should be a sliding track for the “heavy stuff.”

In research, there were plenty of different odd ball guitars played by musical genius, Rick Neilsen. But, then, as an old hot rod guy from the days of scallops and early flames on our school age, Yellow, Pee Chee Notebooks popped up, the similarities were there. Who didn’t spend those valuable creative times sitting in a classroom, trying their best to be a hot rod specialist? Or creative builder with funny drawings and of course, red or yellow scallop style flames. We had yet to develop the curvy style so prevalent in themany years later artwork.

From a Friday Art post… After years of mistakes, lessons learned and still trying to be a “flame artist…” YRMV

  13. Following Moriaritys post... A few years ago I re-created the Rat Fink fan club certificate and membership card. I actually sent away for these as a kid and had them displayed in my room growing up. After leaving home mom decided to file 13 them (gee thanks Mom)! Anyhow, I admit I'm still a kid at heart, so one day I had the idea to try to track these down and purchase so I could keep and display. I did find a few but they either already had names on them or they were in bad shape. I checked out the official Rat Fink website hoping to find there but found these are no longer available. So, made my own.
