I know, a lot of people think these are ugly. Let’s get beyond that. I like them. I’ve only found one thread on here and a lot of pictures missing. Looking for pictures of 32s/Model A’s with a 38-39 truck grille.
. . . and a faulty marriage from two differing styling eras. (How 'bout adding some quad headlights?)
I gotta agree. Those grilles don't look good on anything...including '38-'39 pickups. Couldn't stand the one on my old '39...so...
Yes bannisters was a 32, my bad. I updated the thread ***le. I specifically created this to see some more pictures, not to hear the dislike for the grille. I get it some people don’t like it. To each their own.
No actually it is hot rod history, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's wrong or shouldn't be done! The use of 38 and 39 Ford truck grills is big part of East Coast New England hot rodding! Personally, I don't like the way the rear window/taillights were done on the Hirohata Merc, but it is a huge part of custom car history deserves my respect not my criticism!
Thank you! I've never seen this picture before, really shows the differences sectioning and other minor modifications to make. I agree, I have several friends in the NH car community and have always heard these were big up there. The maroon Model A seems to be sectioned more than 2 bars, I've been thinking 2 bars taken out of the middle is about perfect for an A height wise
Here's some more I've saved, I think they look good and they scream hot rod. Sorry it's not a repop deuce shell.
All my life I thought 38-9 were the ugly trucks but after driving a 39 every day for 17 years, I see them differently and have learned that lots of non-hot rodders like them.
When I first read the thread ***le, I thought that using a 38 - 39 Ford truck grille in a hot rod would look really bad. However, after seeing some photos, I've completely changed my mind. They really look good on hot rods.
the key to making any grille look right and good is with the hood top on it has to run down hill just a hair. when the hood runs uphill it never looks right
I guess they can look great if they're installed right. Like putting them in up straight and/or not having them at least level or a bit shorter than the cowl . . .
