I kinda like the look of the windshield on the car.

    Couple of things…

Awesome imagination! And the windshield looks like a nice addition as well.

  4. I wonder if Woodlite headlights would be a cool choice for that roadster?

Im still up in the air about the windshield. I don’t want to use it just because I have it, but I’m also not sure of the look I want yet. Part of me wants the old 20’s Indy race car look but it would be nice to have a windshield and headlights to drive at night. I took a pic of the side with the windshield balancing on the cowl. And of corse drew in how I want the body shape to look. Not sure if I like it or don’t… decisions, decisions. 178DF1B9-FB5E-4560-BB96-DC7A3D07DAF6.jpeg

I have to say, you do have a good start on a Mustail Boatstang speedster.

Can you license a car in Pennsylvania without a windshield or headlights?

The thing I kinda like about the winshield is how short it is. To me that makes it kind of fitting for a speedster.

But whichever way you go this is such a cool car, I'm not sure you can go wrong!

Kind of is a loose answer, I know. Basically in Pa you can get antique tags without pictures now. So as long as you have a title and classic insurance you can get the tag from Harrisburg. Now, what a cop does if he pulls over a car with no lights would probably be the problem. I was more building the car for some fun race events we have here for these kind of builds… but I always like the idea of being able to drive around the block so to speak. Like to a local show or just drive it to work on a decent day. I was planning on some kind of break lights no matter what. But if I do run headlights I’d probably try to make a removable setup for racing.

Yes… I really like that style also. I originally was thinking of those except just having one on the driver side. Are those a kit?

Really cool assemblage! I'll never look at an old fender in the same way again. Think of using an engine that would allow you & the kids to play at some vintage events. The Rambler may have to become the tow car. New family vacation adventures on the way.

  11. Liking this build, my votes the windscreen you already have, crosses over Rod to speedster,
    Imho.

That’s what I used on my speedster. You can buy them individually.

Great thread. I vote use the windshield you have. You’re giving me ideas for using stuff I didn’t consider before.

I'm digging your project. A boat-tail speedster with a big aggressive front like that is right up my alley.

As for the windshield, I'd suggest getting your steering and seating position figured out before deciding. You'll likely find that the lower half-windshield you have and those little half-moon Aeroscreens are both too low, and won't actually shield you from the wind. Plus, you might end up with the line of windshield top directly in your field of vision, which is distracting/annoying.

For my speedster, I used a lower T-windshield frame and extend it up several inches. See pics below, and you can find more w/s details here on my build thread. If you still have or can get an upper windshield half as a donor, you can cut your extensions out of it. Upper frames are cheap--nobody wants them (at least, not hotrodders :D).

Another way is a square-top one for the passenger and a curved-top one for the driver. "Brooklands aero screen" is what they're called, after the track in Surrey where they were popular. There is some Le Mans precedent for the curved/square combination.

A pair of Woodlites will cost more than he has in the rest of the car!
Make the windshield removeable. A lot of European sports cars had removeable windshields.

I was going to suggest Brooklands screens, a friend once used a front quarter window on its side as a screen.

Great pics! Not 100 percent on any thing yet. Just like setting the parts up and standing back to see how it looks and flows together. I just happen to have that windshield in the barn. I may still go with no windshield at all for that race car look. Who knows? But thanks for the advice and pics how you made yours.

Thinking, planning, & collecting parts is a really fun phase, then it turns to work & frustration when nothing quite fits.
Here are some old wind wings I picked up several years ago. I'm thinking of using them for windscreens on a 1919 Essex based speedster someday. I don't know what they came from but it was bigger and classier than a Ford or Chevy.

I’m really enjoying this and I’m looking forward to completion! Only suggestion I have is that you might like to lay grille shell back a wee bit...
