I don't mean to be a smart***, but you do have a collection of SAE socket and wrenches, right? Shop manuals typically don't go into detail as to what size of sockets or wrenches to use. Grab a few different sizes of sockets, box and open-end wrenches from 3/8" through 5/8" and drag them under the car with you. And, if you have the luck like I do, you'll end up crawling back out from under the car to get a few more sizes to try until you get the right ones. Trust me, I've been doing that for decades.

Does the phrase "trial and error" ring a bell? That's how we learn.

Sounds like your 56 has a late model conversion. A shop manual may not help. For the cap screws on the top of the bell housing a few extensions, about 2 feet, and a swivel will help.

say - can you take some up and close personal photos of that T85 crossmember in your 56 Victoria? Do you plan to swap out the crossmember as well?

My '55 had two holes in the firewall with rubber plugs to access those bolts. Did they get eliminated for '56?

56 still had those plugs. I didn't know what they were for when I was a kid. I removed my bell about 5 times back then.
