Hi - so ive decided to try get my B&D I cleaned up and rewired 4 years ago into to working condition. Can anyone confirm which stone I need for the seat grinder? This one? https://goodson.com/collections/valve-refacing/products/gv-144 Its an 11/16 - all the parts are there, I want to test it on some valves and try get it dialed in
The chance that you're going to grind stellite valve is probably very small. Regardless of the abrasive used in making the wheel, the "grit" and binding agent used will determine the hardness ( resistance to wear or breaking down) . The harder the wheel, the more heat while grinding and the harder to maintain concentricity of the sealing surface with the stem. With softer ,co****r grinding wheels you get less heat but the wheel must be "dressed" more often. Talk to Goodson tech. BTW nice job on the restoration of a good tool.
You’ll want more than one stone (didn’t look at te link) my “stuff “ I’ve ac***ulated (for doing seats by hand) has 70? Degree cutter and 45 degree cutters for different sizes. I have the drill motor type and several stones etc for it, but never tried it out, plus my stones need to be dressed (all used) and doing the seats by hand is kinda relaxing. No, I wouldn’t be trying to maximize a valve job
Just got off the ph, the cool blue stone will handle all valve types and for the record 11/16 super service takes a 1 inch 5/8 stone 4 inch size- Anyone have ok results with the expanding neway pilots or are the solids better? low volume stock stuff
And don't forget a stone for refinishing the tips of the valve stems. Do you also have the tool for dressing the face of the stones?
