    heat good. cold bad.

many old timey heaters are little art deco works of art. here's a few cool ones.

It's funny how easily you get acclimated. Now if it gets below 50, I've got the heated seats on in the family hauler. :D:D:D

But, sadly no, not in the old truck. There is a heater under the dash but the core is shot and the heater hoses are bypassed. I have yet to locate a heater core to fit it, but when I do, she's getting heat. Like I said, I'm delicate. :p

Like jokester said, it's kansas so you can leave in the morning at 35° and drive home after work the same day and be using the a/c.

So my 31 will definitely have heat. I'm too old and have enough joints that hurt when it's cold so anything I can do to keep the joints warm I'm all for in cold months.

    Yup, AC, too.

Even my show rod will have both when it is done.

Why build something that is uncomfortable to drive?

Pull the dash rail, and cut into the face of the tank.

Make deflectors that send the air towards the windshield. Make hose adapters for what was the inside of the tank.

The dash rail will cover the deflectors so they won't be seen.

Only one time while trying to start it, I kept pumping the tank and not holding any pressure (a sign of low fuel in a 10-gallon tank), and eventually lit off a couple of the six 97s' overflow on the engine.

Luckily the guys in the pressroom passed a massive fire extinguisher out the window and I put out the flames. Walked home at 1 a.m. and came back the next day in daylight conditions.

Not sure of the origin. It was a 5 dollar "gift" from a great friend. It keeps Canned Heat, my '29 Tudor nice and toasty on cold Wisconsin fall mornings. P1050029.JPG

  16. I'll be the odd man out. Vintage Air is one of the 1st things I install when building a rod. I drive my stuff year 'round which means snow and cold and 110 degrees in the summer. I haven't had a roadster since 2007 but I might find I don't enjoy that exp. as much as I used to. Age is a factor. Many can laugh but if you get the privilege of living long enough, you will probably find out what people are talking about. Where I live, a close event is 200 miles one way. You can have 35 degrees in the morning and a wonderful 85 in the afternoon. I handle heat way better than cold. However, a fogged up windshield is dangerous and I don't want to be the cause of an accident. :)

I’m in the process right now of putting in a Vintage Air Gen II compact with AC, heat, and defrost. Got the evaporator hung today, going to start on the heater hoses maybe tomorrow. Still got to get the AC hoses, compressor and condenser.

My car had under the seat heaters, but they were rotten. It had a separate core on the firewall for the defrost, I was using it for heat, but it just wasn’t enough to do much more than take a chill off. The Gen II should make it comfortable year round. We can have all four seasons in a day temperature wise. Heat in the morning, AC in the middle of the day, heat again after dark.

While it doesn't get real cold for very long in Oregon, I did put a Montgomery Ward heater in my Model A. It heats the small space quite well. The knob above the heater controls the water valve. Toggle switch for the fan. IMG_1536.JPG

  19. '60 F-100. I don't believe this is a factory unit. I tried to find a core for it a few years ago using the measurements, but never came up with anything.

  20. I've got heat and a/c, sort of.
There was a big ball, rat nest of wires under the dash when I got my '50 Chevy truck a few years back. I didn't turn anything on if I could get by without it. That got to be a habit. Two years ago a new harness cleaned it all up but I haven't gotten around to charging up the a/c yet. Nor have I tried to figure out the heater controls yet.
I roll the windows down when the weather is hot and roll 'em up when it's cold.
(I just drive mostly around town. No trips.)

I've got this heater in my '36 Ford pickup and it works pretty good even with the crude core I made for it. If I had door glass it might even get toasty in that small cab. My henryJ has all it's windows but no heater.

No heat in my coupe. I’ve driven it as low as 18 degrees F. Model A coupe is so small, it doesn’t matter much on a short trip.

I do. S E Mich, might be 72 all day and drop to 48 that night. Gotta have it, but y'all gotta wait for a performance report and I'm fairly confident. Got this from @titus and restored it with a 12V motor from NAPA. Also have defrost tubes, just close the doors to increase the function, and I have a vacuum fan to blow across the glass as well for those steamy summer nights.

I have a Hot rod air unit. For defrost, I used the deforest ducts from late 40 "something" made of metal. Drilled number of holes in the windshield lower flange to match position. Seems to work ok. Getting ready to go pick a friend up at 6 tonight, at 24* here in Idaho. Model A door gaps, put towels to stop air flow along seat edges-lol

Yes siree, heat and AC for me.

Some days I use heat in the morning and AC in the afternoon. The AC was really worth its weight when my wife drove the car 150 miles to Hot Rod-a-Rama in eastern Oregon last summer…. 105 degrees, 70 mph, and she didn’t stop once.

What’s that phrase? Happy wife, happy what?

  26. Canned Heat ehh? Does that mean you’re umm, going up the country? lol

  27. I restored the original heater from my '40 as I was going through the rest of the car. Then decided to swap the Cad in it; so had to move one of the tubes to clear the distributor and added some beads to both of them to better retain the hoses under pressure, though I'm only running a 7 lb. cap on the radiator. Works great; it's throwing heat within 3 min. after start-up!

Here in Ontario a heater that is capable of defrosting the windshield and front side windows is actually a safety regulation/requirement. I converted to a 12V system so plan to rebuild this one with a new motor.

Princess Auto have these in their flyer this week. Wow 36,000 BTU, I could drive all winter with the windows down. LOL Heater 1.jpg
