I'm taking liberties from behind the scenes to leak a little info about the California Drags at Flabob airport Dec 9-10th. This not the official thread and I'm not an official. I'm just a dumb hot rodder that makes phone calls and brings something to the party. 2022 seemed like a year that was all about our roots. Smaller shows, unsponsored cruises, milestone birthdays, and of course anniversaries. We get reminiscent for the good old days. Paso, FTB, Primer Nats, Mooneyes Christmas party when it was actually at mooneyes etc.. etc... When the call was made to do a west coast TROG event all of this old time shenanganry bubbled up to the surface. How do you do an event that has that much enthusiasm? You call to the enthusiastic. So here it is. Are you ready to party? What are you bringing to the party? It's up to you to make this event kick ass. There's racing. And you only have until the end of Halloween to get registered. There's curated customs. There's miles of historic hangars and airport to be cruised by all of you. Bring your jalopy finished or not. Bring your vintage trailer, bring your family, most importantly bring that sense of wonder and love for the thing that brought you here in the first place... Enjoy these recon photos of Flabob..( flay-bob)
That is a fantastic place for a vintage car meet. It looks like traveling back in time to the roots of Hot Rodding and will be a great vibe and great for photos.
Bumping this back to the top, and with a question. Re drive in, according to the website: "Drive in and park for traditional hot rods, customs, bikes…pre 1964 only. Local car clubs - T.R.O.G. staff will guide you" Are pre-purchased tickets required, or advised?
Thanks, I appreciate the response. One more question, and hopefully these questions help others too; but is Friday only a night time event? Or is there racing and/or other things going on at the field on Friday daytime too. Gates open 7 on Friday? Thanks again man, much appreciated. Really looking forward to it all.
There's no racing planned for Friday. Gates open around 4pm. The reason for ambiguity is that nothing is off the table for possibility. This is the first time at this venue so we all have to stay flexible.
Appreciate the effort you're putting in to get this off the ground. Having some flexibility is the least we can do to help get this worked out. Thanks for the replies here. Looking forward to the weekend.
I'm planning on going but the forecast says 70% rain on Saturday. I guess we'll see you when it gets closer
Just checked Weather dot com and it shows afternoon showers on Friday, but Partly Cloudy on Saturday (am showers on Sunday). These things can and do change, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
We don't have to worry about the Tide, and if it slows down racing you can't rain out cruising...a little water won't shut us down.
