Looking to purchase a pair of 295 /50 R15 tires for my custom. Question will they work on 7”wide wheels or do I have to use 8” wide wheels.

    The chart I have says 10 or 9.5 for a 295/50

I have those on the back of my Fargo, on a 10” wheel, 8” would be awfully narrow for them I think

Agreed, this is what they look like on 10's.

  8. A 255/60/15 will be about 1/2" larger diameter and will fit nicely on a 8" rim.

I have used that size on 8” wheels on a muscle car before and they looked fine. I am struggling to picture them on a custom though.

DO NOT...put wide tires on a narrow wheel, and expect the car to handle well !

FOLLOW the tire manufacturers recommendation for the wheels rim width.
In this case, a 10" wheel width sounds very good.
    NO...narrower !

8 inch would work but tire wear could be an issue. Also if tire clearance is close you can cheat with an 8 inch wheel , it would **** the sidewalls in somewhat giving you more room in the wheel well.
