I'd find a washer that fits the hose and clamp it in place.

They are usually just big washers from the hardware store. Nothing fancy. You may have to expirement with different size holes.

Have you tried it without them yet? You might not need them.

I tried them out with a bigger hole then 5/8" and ended up taking them out. Didn't need them.

Buy two 180 deg. tstats. they are cheap and work very well. mine open at 180 deg. them runs at about 160 deg. with them. I live in Yuma, Az. where it gets very hot, I drive mine in the summer and it runs cool. LATER

its a good idea not to install restrictors...modern opinion seems to be to run 180 deg t-stats as suggested by duster.

is your flathead overheating? or are you making the adjustment just as a precautionary thing?

my flatty was running way how so i switched out the thermostats to new 160 degs. the car was running much better until i blew my rad, which is now at the shop getting repaired. thermo's are $5 a piece, run em and see what happens.

  12. Do what Duster said. But, if you are going to run just washers, make the hole the same size as the hole in the tstats. But tstats are the best.

Personally, I think I'd run thermostats or nothing. I've been running without thermostats for the last 2 years. Summer it runs 170-180 except in traffic it would creep up and drop off as soon as you got going again. Cool weather is different, if it's in the '60's or below it doesn't get as hot. I have to cardboard the radiator when it's in the 50's to get the temp up around 140-150.

Now I'm putting in a new walker and with the added cooling I'm thinking I might add thermostats.

mine runs normal, by dash gauge only...when in traffic its creeps up to the h side, then out of no where it drops to the middle of the gauge..it could be either sticking or just opening up. never boils...i need to ck to see what is in their...

you should really get a real numbered guage so you can get a more accurate temperature reading, it may not be overheating at all. has the motor been rebuilt recently?

A well-running flatty has no reason to overheat.

I run 170* stats in mine & can't get it above 175 unless I sit in traffic, then the best I can do is 185* - even running 3000+ rpm for hours on end it won't budge over 175* normally...

Run the t-stats - try 180* and work from there.

Had been running with no t-stats. But after switching to OG water pumps (my aftermarket ones are getting reworked for 4 groove pulleys) My temp creeps up pretty fast. Sitting in traffic has me reaching 220 QUICK.

Probably won't hassle with washers though. I'm going to put in thermostats.
