I think at some point we've probably all been in that or a similar situation.

 

That's the first time I've seen it with the pink scallops. It usually has a '55 Chevy push truck behind it or with the roof bashed in I think @jnaki Did some artwork of it.

 

Probably me too, except it would not have had sand around (snow, or green gr***), and it wouldn't have been in a Chevy (would have been a Mopar here).

I have 4 brother in laws that spent way more time in a situation like the one pictured (one even ran into a house!) I probably would have been on the other end of the chains, pulling them out, or watching some guy in a tow truck pull them out.

 

I've never seen this photo of Lynn Yakel's coupe before, and I don't think either one of those guys are Lynn.

The Burkholder Brothers have a very long history in the California drag racing scene. That accidenrt photo of their red coupe was left out of the overall posts I did for their coupe information, as given to me by Harry Burkholder.

It was a sad ending to one great build and experience for the racing team as created by some young guys in California a long time ago. So, for those posts, I left it out.

So, no one forgets, a long time before the Burkholder Brothers Fiat Coupe we have all seen in the photos everywhere are the only remnants of history, here is something a little earlier.
1959 Harry Burkholder
1958-59 to the Kingdon March Meet, 63 years ago. Brothers, Pete and Harry Burkholder, along with friend, Joe Radan made up the P B J Racing Team. (B was Harry’s nickname: Burk)

Early drag racing coupes? A big 671 sitting on an Oldsmobile motor makes some noise. A Red, Ford 5 window with some at***ude… what is not to like?


And... early scallops to boot!

Wow, thank you…someone actually looks at my funky drawings… YES! I did a similar drawing based on what they did for color. The yellow flames looked better on my artistic discretion. After all, that is what art is, “through the eyes of the beholder…” But, I had it in the same folder if I decided to use it later in another thread. So, this is a good time to do so… YRMV

The film and photos were sent to me from Harry Burkholder. The rest was a long search for information. Good old High School English cl*** "learning to research" pays off again.

Thanks, but I've read just about everything written about Lynn's coupe, one of my favorites, but had never seen that photo of it. Sure would like to know where it went.
