We all have piles of them if we've been active in going to shows. I probably have 50+ or more. What are some creative ways you guys have come up with the display them ? Mine are stuffed into a ziplock bag in the glovebox.
Pulled a set of chrome exhaust tips off a car recently. The tailpipe was smaller than the tip. So someone had spindled car show plaques between the pipes as shims so the clamps would tighten. Looked like **** on the car also! Sorry this isn't exactly what you asked for! Got a stack of 'em myself. Intentions are to organize my automobilia cabinets and put them into them.
Tool boxes or the frig in the garage. Generally, I only keep the really good looking ones or those from a show that perhaps I won an award or my cl*** at (not many of those! ha ha). I've never put one on my dash, kinda trashes up the interior, IMHO. I just keep them in a box or drawer (my frig is full!). I especially like to keep memorable items from certain shows - those "first ever" shows, or "last ever" shows, etc. Major events, super nice places, races, etc.. Same for mugs, hat pins and all the rest of the dust collectors that come in goodie bags. Programs are nice to keep if they are well done. In the olden days, you got a participant dash plaque that was engraved right at the event with your fastest time, or record time, or cl*** award; and many people actually put them on their dashes. One or two, perhaps. But I rarely see that anymore. Rather than all the goodie bag stuff, I'd much rather get a free event shirt!
I've only a few from my T tudor. My favorite I stuck to the bathroom mirror. A good morning reminder.
I put 3 ,br*** engraved type show plaques on the inside of my full custom "J" glovebox door in 1960. But after, most shows started using printed plaques on alum=must of been cheeper. Only a few of the bigger shows still ,still did some engraved br***.
One of my friends did a shadow box collection of all the shows he and our deceased friend went to together. He has it on the wall in a garage. I had thought about a display in chronological order but haven't done it yet. Obviously, it's not a priority. Plus, the project keeps going. As has been mentioned, hat pins are of little use to me.
When me and my friends would go to a car show we always felt that it was the least the event planners could do is give us a dash plaque for coming out.
I only have a few. I put some cheap magnets on the back of them and had a couple stuck above the windshield inside the truck for a while. I've moved them to the metal door between the garage and the attached workshop/storage room.
Someone mentioned mugs. Here are my NSRA mugs from before the change: Of course the Good Guys mugs are on the opposite wall, we all know they did not play well together, back in the day.
Had mine plastered all over the tool box till it was covered. Got tired of looking at it one day and peeled them all off. Of course as usual for me it turned into a project. Dave and Phil got the right plan.
Like others have said, I also had them stuck on toolboxes, cabinet doors, etc. Now, if they fall off they usually end up swept up and thrown in a draw or the trash. Whichever is closer.
Hmm...I kinda like Phil’s cabinet idea. I had probably 20 or 30 on a fridge that quit so ended up just throwing all those away. Mine are now sort of all over and not sure what to do with them. I did start putting stickers and on my lift posts, but the dash plaques are mostly in a drawer of the tool box.
You can't open a drawer in our home and not find one or 2 dash plaques, I have a couple of cigar boxes full, I've been doing this a long time. HRP This was the first show I attended driving a hot rod.
Started this a long time ago….my son left them. I got the idea the thread ***le might mean they were on the dash…..
I had mine on a sheet of plastic that I had framed for a long time. I think that was the first and last time I ever took them to an event though. The only one I ever had in the truck was the one from the 73 Street rod nationals in Tulsa that was the event that I put the truck together to go to. Most of the plaques on that board were from Texas from 73/77.
I've never seen the attraction to them. They aren't a gift or a goody in my eyes, they are future advertising for the event, and I don't do free advertising! If event organizers would stop printing them and give the 10-cent cost of each to a charity, I'd be happy.
I have a bunch of plaques, some on a display board and others just laying on a shelf. (None of them on a “dash”) The oldest one is from 1972. I also have a big bag of participant ****ons from all the miscellaneous National events going back to the early ‘70’s.
Mine are on the storage fridge. Freezer door has dash plaques, other door I stick the cool looking Rock Auto magnets on. The ugly ones go in the trash....
