This looks just so right, did it ever see any race use, Dry Lakes or Bonneville?

All it needs is a little clean up. I’d go through the mechanical stuff so it’s safe and reliable while leaving the paint and interior as is. Very cool ride…

We want to add a fan, but we're running into clearance issues with the tach drive generator. Does anybody have any suggestions? We would prefer to do a belt driven, but a 6v would work if we needed to. 20221107_151324.jpg 20221107_142928.jpg

Yes those are latches for a hood lock. We considered removing them, but decided against it.

It has a left column shifter. We think it can off of whatever the engine was from because there no place in the ****** for a floor shift.

Why do you feel the need for a fan? If it never had one why the need to change.

Wow Josh, this car is incredible, It has all the whistles and bells and is probably in print somewhere.
It's not a 59 block they are post war, it's a 41 and probably a Mercury. Check the bore, it will be 3 3/16
or larger, making it a Merc. It has adjustable lifters also, so someone knew there stuff. Chrome water
pumps were done back in the day and it made a flathead look even better. The cam will be pre war, with
the lobe centers moved out to accommodate the valves being closer to the bores. These engines were
the racers choice, so be sure to save that cam. Outside the roadster shows so much detail, with the radius
around the steering box and all the chrome. The front axle looks like a rare Zimmer and that top knocks
my socks off. They just don't get any better than this. Congratulations, and really sorry for your dad loss.

There are very few true survivors left such as this
It’s a beautiful car and deserves being treated with kid gloves

That's a good question. Neither of us really had the knowledge or means to move it and get it running. We ***umed that something was really wrong with it since my grandpa put it away. It was my father in law that got us motivated.

Sometimes they get parked for something pretty simple. Life gets in the way and time just moves faster and faster. Next thing you know it’s been decades.

a lot of flathead hot rods did and do run with out a fan. I’d make sure the pumps work and the rad is good and see how it fairs as is before I started fixing a problem that might not be there

Yeah, what Tim said. If the thing used to bomb around the hot southwest it might be just fine in cool Colorado with no fan.

To add clearance for the fan, you can change the generator mount. The one you have twists the generator up instead of straight out. Here's a common Offenhausen that will change the angle. The down fall is you can't run with the hood on. Gen Mount Striaght.jpg

I'm sure a fan could be utilized in a number of ways, might be wise to get it running & see how it cools with close attention to all aspects of the system .

    Beautiful survivor!
Most survivor Hot Rods have something or another, wonky…not this one. Keep it as original as humanly possible, please!

Fanastic. Just be careful you don't do 'too much' to it.
By dipping the block, you will now be left with the dilemma of painting it - then you have to decide where to stop.
