I need some guidance on what to do for brake set up. I am building a studebaker pickup with a 327, automatic, with disc brakes up front, and drum brakes in rear, all gm. I am trying to figure out what setup to go with. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have been looking at Wildwood sets but don't know what to choose.

My stab in the semi darkness is a 1 1/8" master with an 8" dual booster. You'll want the pedal ratio in the 5+:1 region with about 1 1/2" of throw. Wildwood is just a brand, a good brand, but there are any number of sources. Generic 'corvette style" master is what you'll probably end up with.

If the disk and the rear axle came from the same vehicle I'd copy the factory setup as close as possible.

On my Studebaker truck I used all the components for a 75 Camaro/Firebird manual disc drum set up. That includes rotors, calipers, proportioning valve and the wheel cylinders. The truck weighs about the same as a Camaro and it has excellent brakes.

  5. Try ECI brake in Vernon, Connecticut. They make many disc brake conversions using quality products at reasonable prices.

Brake problems are so common that we need a sub-forum f0r brakes only.

Disc in front and drums in rear, all GM. Easy answer is get the pedal and master from the same vehicle you got the brakes from.

Don’t know what they are from? Then anyone’s recommendations are going to be a shot in the dark.

Read about as many threads as you can handle on the subject. The TA DAD/alchemy suggestion of using a complete system from a donor vehicle is good info. I used a similar year Camaro setup on my 53 Chev sedan and it works well. I did keep the master under the floor and had to use an adjustable length push rod to get the feel right without having to pump the brakes to stop.

Buy a rusty G body donor car and get everything from that ( including the rear end)
    Then rebuild what is needed.
