I see pullmax hammers being used to form Body lines. Is there any reason that i can not use my mitler brothers hammer to do this? I realize that i will have to make dies. Has anyone else done this?
not an expert and never tried, but i do have a reciprocating machine...it would be easier to control if you could figure out a way to lock out the spring, effectively converting it from a hammer to reciprocating machine. i would say a fence to guide your work is the other major difference and is important to making profiles. the other concern would be fine adjustment of the die spacing, is there a fine height adjust on your hammer? if not, i would say it would be quite frustrating. putting this all together, my routine is often starting out with rough p***es with more stroke and slower speed to move metal, then incrementally reduce stroke and increase speed to planish the final profile. if you can't lock out the spring, this would be quite difficult.
