There is a place in Portland Oregon called Old Car Parts on Powell Blvd and he has a huge stock of NOS USA made fuel pumps. Got a double diaphragm fuel/vacuum flathead pump from him a while ago when no one else had any stock due to Covid. Found the out of stock was all off shore stuff, these are like A/C, Standard, good stuff.

Oops! Yeah, I caught that I didn't get the name right after I posted but got busy cooking supper. Thank you though, and I have corrected it. I'd say if aircraft home builders are using them they, the pump, must have a pretty good reputation.

Facet 12 Volt Cube Style Electric Fuel Pumps
Racers have relied on Facet electric fuel pumps for many years. Facet fuel pumps operate without troublesome seals or diaphragms. Built-in pressure relief means no flooding after shutting down a hot engine. All Facet pumps are compatible with gasoline, alcohol blends (up to and including E85), diesel, biodiesel, and fuel additives.

All of the pumps listed here are 12 volt, negative ground and draw an average of 1.4 Amps. Simple two-wire hookup (red Positive and black Ground) makes it easy to install a Cube-Style pump on a positive-ground vehicle.

For each pump we quote the maximum pressure (psi) and the maximum flow (GPH); note that as flow increases, pressure decreases. Pumps can be combined in series or parallel to achieve any required pressure or flow.

These compact pumps measure just 2 1/2" high x 2" wide x 1 5/8" thick (less mounting feet and inlet/outlet ports). Mounting feet are drilled for two 1/4" mounting bolts spaced 2 1/2" center-to-center.

Beware of counterfeits! We only sell Genuine Facet pumps - not the unreliable foreign knock-offs sold elsewhere.

You could also use a fuel pump inertia switch like Ford used on pickups from 1988 to at least 1996.

  9. Ford Inertia switch. a few $$$ at any pick n pull yard. We have been required to use them at Bonneville for a long time. This one is Aerostar. Grab the pigtail as well.

  11. After reading all this, it makes me wonder if I should even bother with a mechanical fuel pump.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but if running a carburetor as long as you have enough flow the pressure isn't all that important as long as it isn't too high.

I do like the 'fake' pump solution for 'trad' looks....

Steve, I'll go out on a limb here and say that's correct. What I visually observed on my last N.A.P.A. pump was when the float dropped to refill the bowl the line pressure would also drop. "If" it dropped to 5 or 6 lbs. the motor recovered and temporally smoothed out. Once the pressure got above 9lbs. it wasn't happy anymore and you could visibly see it get wet inside the bores. At 11lbs. it was flooding over. On those pumps the needle on the gauge was never steady at any time. I bought an Edelbrock pump #1721 made in the U.S.A. Right out of the box on a dead cold motor starting on full choke I had 6lbs. The needle was steady and stayed steady all across the range from cold start to full op temp. No matter the R.P.M. it stayed 6lbs steady as a rock. Exactly what a mechanical fuel pump should do. If there was any downside to the Edelbrock pump it would be the cost. To hook up any lines it requires 2 adapters pending what you have for incoming and outgoing lines. The total cost for pump and 2 fittings was $214.67. Not even a concern for if I had been paying $50.oo an hour for labor that number would have been long gone out the window and still have the problem.

Looks like an Edelbrock but it has cube style internals but with a molded housing rather than the tin steel. https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=9615

NOS pumps don't always play well with fuel contain ethanol.

Can't beat a Carter rotary pump for price or performance.

They are nice pumps but trying to keep pump below the bottom floor of the tank is difficult since where the motor is for my application.
