Looking for a good shade of copper. Something that would have looked awesome on a late 50's custom. Anything come to mind?

Interesting that you mention 'pink' looking, as I was trying to find a colour close to 56-57 Corvette Aztec Copper, or that 57 Caddy Copper shown in a post above, but it was impossible to get a code here in the UK that was compatible with a UK paint supplier, and with no examples known in the UK, impossible to sample. Many people thought said to me they looked pink as well. The paint guy ended up doing a custom mix in the end.

Sorry for the photo quality, but this reminds of one the early custom colors, Burnt Orange.

Chrysler Turbine Bronze! Off of the Turbine cars.

  11. Problem is Copper is one of those colors that depending on the camera can really fluctuate in print on what it looks like. The teal my 33 is painted can go from really blue to really green based on the camera and lighting. Early O/T Chevy's "Aztec Bronze" (1966) and "Corvette Bronze" (1968) can look really red in film.

It doesn’t have to be a period color, just something that would look right from the era. It can be a brand new color, if need be.

Same paint code as Ford's Burnt Amber as seen on Mustangs, Thunderbirds and Fairlanes etc the from same year.

Root, you need to "find your eyes" in an older HOK paint book. The Kandy pages get your eyes dialed in so picking from a production book gets easier. Just sayin...

Yeah, I’ll know it when I see it. There was an altered from circa 1965-70ish I remember as a kid reading hot rod mags. It was a 33-34 Ford with a big Chrysler motor. It was the perfect copper color.

  19. Looking at old paint chips and new ones have one major difference
The metallic colors for “newer” rides are BC/CC. Not an honest comparison to single stage metallic colors.
Plus the pearls added in newer paints change the depth and side casts

Leave it to Mark, you rule @Moriarity . The only caveat, the polarized lenses on phones and puter screens lies to ya. "Too green", "too red" might not be, but you still get a direction out of it.

True. Just looking for something I can look at on a real car. It's hard to tell on a 1/2"x2" chip anyway...

I am not shooting for period perfect. I plan on driving this for my daily, so the powerplant/chassis wont be period anyway. It just needs to have a 50's-60's era vibe, to the untrained eye.

Just for your info, Over the last 35 years I have redid 3 57s and 2 56's in Aztec gold. I had a rusted original color 56 front fender that I held on to as a color match tool for many years. I have painted in PPG, Dupont, Basf paints and always their top shelf lines at the time and because of the modern E P A approved toners used at various times through the years the new formulas always came out brighter and more golden shade to some degree or another. the original was darker and browner. Toners change constantly due to E P A regulations. So, I would recommend no matter what color you choose, have a sample pint mixed and make sure it is what you want. Aside from specialty companies like House of Color, manufacturers do not even produce color chip books with actual paint samples anymore. There were a number of cool copper shades on more recent production cars. Some of the newer Dodge Chargers, Corvettes and Fords Explorers come to mind. Just food for thought. Larry
