when driving my 1950 Buick roadmaster, everytime I hit a bump or rough road I hear a t******* and vibration type of sound underneath in the rear. I checked everything underneath and its all very secure.just can't figure out what it can be. any help would be appreciated.
***uming you still have the torque tube rear axle, the only things that come to mind are some part of the rear suspension or exhaust hitting the body, the spring upper rubber pads gone or a broken or loose shock. Pictures would help.
Bangingoldtin gave just about the same answer that I would have. You just have to check each spot no matter how minor it seems for what might be the cause. I'd start checking around any work that was done lately if you had recent work done on it. Exhaust pipe or muffler hitting when it moves because of a clearance issue or a loose hanger. Shock bushings or spring pads.
exhaust pipe and muffler very secure with plenty of clearance. I will check shock bushings or the spring pads. thanks.
yes still has torque tube rear axle and the exhaust is brand new and very secure with clearance, but I will check the spring upper rubber pads and the shocks. thanks.
There are 2 "trailing arms" that attach near the front of the torque tube and go to the outboard ends of the rear axle housing. Make sure that those bolts are tight and the mounting holes in the arms aren't worn out of shape where they attach. I've seen the rear bolts come loose and get noisy.
