The helicopters I rode had two Jesus nuts. Helicopters are just thousands of spare parts all moving in close formation.

Doing the brakes first is good; Then I'd look at wiring and steering while driving. I'd fix the header situation next and install the hood. Look at all the fasteners, welds and look for clearance issues. You didn't build it so you have to learn it. Drive and enjoy.

Sounds like a very cool plan. A 302 gmc six would be cool if you can find one. Another option might be a 292 Chevy 6. Could be dressed to back date it's look.

  6. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but make sure you have a legit ownership/***le/registration (or whatever they call it in your area) IN YOUR NAME before putting any money into it. There are some real horror stories out there ... don't be one of them :)

I can't count how many guys have posted for advice and ignored all of it. Gotta be a zillion of those. You are wise to tap into the hard-earned knowledge here. I have two 60's cars, I drove both of them home. The first one I blew all apart 30 years ago and it's not back together yet. Big, delusional, ever-changing plans unfulfilled. The second one I've driven for 20 years, I've fixed a bunch of little things on it, thrilled all the kids, their friends, the nieces and nephews, my fellow siblings etc. My son even nicknamed it the "cool car" and while sitting in his little kid booster seat said, while we were idling at a stoplight, "Dad. I like the cool car. It's kinda rumbly."

Good on ya mate, enjoy a running driving project. I agree, fix the little stiff, vintage-ize the motor, fix the stance, wheels and tires and you will be well on your way. Stance and the right wheel tire combo make a HUGE difference in any car.

If you don’t like the matt black, you can always change the wheel colour to something like this, - (or red etc ) with white walls to distract from the matt black.
Possibly cut and polish the paint.

Plus all the other good advice given above……

Well, it looks like the guys have you heading in the right direction.

Your taking their advice serious, and it sounds like your going to follow it. That's also a great start.

Won't be long before we have you hooked for life.

Enjoy the ride, both on the HAMB, and in that cool little 36 Chevy truck.

Have fun with the truck. Drive it , enjoy it. Make small changes when you have the cash. That way you can still drive it while working on it. 34 ,35 and early 36 chevy pickups all same cab. Late 36 (low cab) looks like a 37. Like many said before me. Rear fenders ,wheels and tires and stance(however you want it). Don't forget the lawn chair and some cold beverages to sit and look at it. To make the right choices on any changes. Have fun cool old truck.

I think I would look hard for some halibrand copies for the rear to match the front wheels!
A hood top, rear fenders and some finned aluminum covers on the engine would go a long way to cleaning it up.

"I am also on a fairly slim budget...as far as my wife knows, anyway."
LOL, once a free 289 from a buddy cost me ten grand...
