    Hello,

Shadows show up from all times of the day. The early morning and late afternoon cause the steepest angles of shadows. For hot rods, the open angle accessories, the tires, and the body work all make an interesting photo addition.

From the “High School Graduation” episode of Riverdale, a take on the Archie Comic Books from a long time ago…Betty, Veronica, and Jughead. Supposedly, an early morning shadow at the bus stop. The bus just picked up Archie for his new adventures… no other spoiler alerts… For the sharp eyed viewer, and the location expert from the film crew, it had to be early morning as the shadows were some of the steepest angles shown.

Rumor has it that the 5th season is the absolute final season and all 5 seasons were done quite well. The 100th episode has already been filmed. Of course, liberties were taken from the original concept of the family approved, Archie Comic Books, shadows and all... YRMV

    Hello,
A couple of weeks ago, @louwells posted a cool photo of a red 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery. But, the noticeable thing was in front of the sedan delivery. “da-da -da-da -da-da -da-da -da-da… Batman…”

    upload_2022-3-20_5-33-12.png

It just reminded me of those carefree 20 something days of cruising around in our 327 powered, 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery everywhere in So Cal. Being 20 something was just a time to do those things and have the carefree at***ude that has lasted to today’s pandemic situation. We can all get through this with support and smarts.

The time of the year, the angle of the sun, and the height of the photographer or eye level photography all lead to different shadows with almost the same hot rod.

    Jnaki

It is difficult to get over the fact that we owned two of this same model, with different power/build for each, despite being used to cruise all over So Cal from the teens to the 30s. Surf wagon? Definitely, but also to do our usual So Cal hot spot road trips during vacations, Photo shoots, and the year around, mild summer weather area. It was a good way to enjoy the deep blue sea and shoreline experience…YRMV

But, the shadow was reminiscent of the radical Batmobile in its weird shape…

upload_2022-5-10_4-23-21.png a different moving shadow frozen in time...

    Hello,

In looking at our 1940 Willys Coupe (in the B/Gas cl*** on a single run back in 1960,) filmed by RRuss, it showed something I did not see before. A shadow of my brother driving the 40 Willys Coupe in the B/Gas Willys, with both hands on the wheel.

It is typical of street driving styles with both hands on the wheel and when it was time to shift into 2nd gear, the right hand did its thing. A 62 year old photo of a shadow in drag racing. it did not matter how many times i viewed the film from the original 16mm film and on the original steel reel, to the VHS copy to the final digital edition. The action spurred viewing again and again.

When the digital accessories allow frame by frame stop motion viewing, things start popping up. This shadow was never noticed by my brother or me, through the 16mm reel views and the VHS copy I made for him. It was the flow of memories that made us view it over and over when we used to have our get togethers later on in our family history.

6 Strombergs on a 292 c.i. SBC with A new Reath Auto modified 671, Isky Gilmer Blower Drive, blower spec motor, pistons, balanced crank, polished heads and a Joe Hunt Magneto. LaSalle transmission running to a 4:56 Chevy rear axle and gears, sending power to the Bruce Slicks all made it a race car built for the street. (or vice versa... a street hot rod built to race...)

It was the 2nd generation build up, from the original build with a 283 motor and carbs. Fully street legal, including mufflers and working brake/headlights, allowed us to drive to our favorite Bixby Knolls hangout spots before we started our journey at the drags.

Awesome stuff Hambers...shadows very much many times generate as much interest as the cars themselves...and whether your standing still or hurtling down the open road the shadows follow in perfect form wrapping around every deviation in the constantly changing surfaces...

I have to always make a point of saying Photographers are truly Artists...the material is Art as well but the eye many times captures the scene before the shutter is activated...amazing share @loudbang...;)

The Doctor is in. So, tell me how long you've been having these flashbacks from the '60s? ;)

Hey A, (not to be confused with the "Big A")

Ever since 1970. Ha! The whole world was going a little crazy at the time. My wife and I were just starting out together during the late 60's era. We enjoyed long bouts of being together on those cool road trips all over So Cal, Baja, Mexico and the rest of what California offered us.

There wasn't much elsewhere that sparked us like the "happening things/places" in California and Baja. So, for both of us, it seemed like a game of "Us against the world..." It has been like that since we have been together. Even our son has said it is hard to break up a "team."

We recently talked about a news item that mentioned the way to keep dementia and the cohort "Big A" away. "Constant talking" about anything and everything in conversation, keeps the electronic points firing. It builds a barrier against the early onset of those big two.

Ever since we met in college, our electrons have been firing. Anywhere we went on our road trips, it was almost non stop talking. It is like living in a talk radio/podcast show for for 56 straight years of broadcasting... HA! And... it is still going on strong, daily, almost non stop... those memories and flashbacks have no chance against us.
upload_2022-5-12_10-29-8.png without the fog light addition to the batwings...
At least during the hot rod road trip days, there was some noise to overcome, but these days, prior to the pandemic, our modern insulated road trip station wagons and cars amplify the conversations up a notch. IOHO

    Hello,

In So Cal, during the summer season, the sun moves to its highest position at the Summer Solstice Day, June 21. Then gradually (approximately one degree South each day) the Sun’s position moves in a Southerly direction. When the Winter Solstice is the final result, it starts its journey back North again.

It might be hard to imagine if the Sun’s location can’t be seen against a backdrop, like a mountain peak or an island in the ocean. Then the sun’s directional path is evident if you take photos during the year. For So Cal residents and travelers, in the peak of June, the Santa Monica/Santa Barbara folks have the Sun due West. In the Winter months, 200 plus miles South, the San Diego residents have the Sun due West before it starts its journey back North.

    Jnaki

Not that the explanation is put out there, the above photo of the Model A coupe is a puzzle. It is not a High Noon shadow photo and was taken at a 10:45 am time/location. (June 3) But, the shadow is directly overhead prior to the High Noon usual shadow. So, we, in So Cal have odd ball shadows all during the seasons, much like other North/South la***ude locations.

Every object in the suns path becomes a sundial in a sense...I suppose depending on your angle of shoot the position of shadow may appear directly at 90° to the subject but angled slightly forward or aft of it in reality...I truly see the suns seasonal movement especially at home were in the winter the sun sets directly straight out the front window were it now in summer sets far far to the right of the window...thanks for sharing the seasonal effects of Sun, Shadow with you're love of Hotrod/Custom and the mix of a trained lense and eye. Art I say...

    An early morning photo image

    Hello,

An early 9:00 A.M. shadow in the throes of a hot summer morning of 2022, last week had an unusual appearance. Shark Fin Soup, anyone at 9:00 in the morning? The clean lines of the Chevy sedan had some nice custom touches added to the style and cruising at***ude. The additional highlighted body work on the rear body panel, just made the whole sunken in antenna stand out. It created a definite shadow for the time of day.

With the recent Great White Shark and Hammerhead Shark sightings in the South Coast beaches, something was in the air… and lurking underwater.

Luckily, there were some shots from a drone or helicopter overhead. Stay Safe…

Great shots @jnaki. Yes the fin is clearly visible, as is the antenna shadow. Truly mosaic of reflection and shadow creating a playground of visual discovery that's constantly changing...

Boy......sorry for the late like Dave...but thanks...I don't play by any rules when shooting pics, if I feel there's a moment I point and shoot...I see you have taken the image further with some filtering...

Pretty hard to make any capture of that Hotrod look anything but spot on...

Keep them coming...I'll try to be more prompt in responding next time...I think there's a thing I can select to alert me...
