Anyone have any experience with the 24” $$ glass-pack mufflers that Speedway sells, available polished or un-polished?

Best muffler with good constructed exhaust system///No best answer .It,s a turkey shoot each has their own opinion on what sounds right & the loudness. My upholstery guy says go with a 2 chambered muffler if being too loud is your concern. That might be what I try next . yup more money spent when I,m not sure is the right answer ??? My biggest issue is the (
    drone) when cruising Gene

Love the car and the sound of glasspack mufflers
but I could live without the gear drive. I had one in my '40 Hudson. I received a lot of comments about my power steering pump going bad.
    Beautiful blue!

  5. Yeah I sometimes hear that when at a vintage show, took it to an event with newer import show cars and much younger crowd and everyone though it had some form of forced induction, lol. .

Drone has a lotta variables. Distance from the engine, insulation, desired cruise RPM, even body style. Had an H pipe and an "American Thunder" system on a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ GT, had to be just under the speed limit or near 10 over to avoid the dreaded drone. My normal RPM in that car was 21-2200 so it was drop to 2000 or zip it along at 2400. Well, White Zombie in the CD helped sometimes...

Another vote for Brockman Mellowtones. I have a pair of the 17" long 2" diameter steel packs and am very happy with them. Fairly loud, but hardly any drone. Much better than the cheap turbo mufflers that were on it.

  10. When I was in high school, 1988-92, we used to hate and laugh at glasspacks. I had short glasspacks on my 1966 FE powered F-100 because I was a poor fuck (Cheapshit came after I got a full time job). The hot mufflers at the time were the Flowmasters. We all thought they sounded bad ass. Now, I have an appreciation for glasspacks and hate the hollow, tinny sound of the welded chambered mufflers. When I was younger, I also thought open drag pipes on a Harley were the coolest ever, now, I want mufflers, not stock, but some kind of muffling. Weird how things come full circle. I’d like to put Porters, Smithy’s, or Brockman’s on our 3100 when Little Truckdoctor and I small block it. With cast iron manifolds of course.

One thing that I've noticed is you can put the Same mufflers on three different cars and sometimes they will all sound different.
The engine, cam profile and if the vehicle has headers or castiron manifolds will change how mufflers sound.

videos with late model pickups doing muffler comparisons on a single exhaust and with a catalytic converter have nothing to do with traditional hot rods. They will continue to be deleted....

Not always. I’m using the same exhaust with the SBF as I had with the SBC, same pipes, same mufflers. They sound exactly the same.

I've typically only use Cherry Bombs, but the case is longer than I want, so I usually cut them down shorter and weld them back together again.

  20. Sound = Smittys and Porters, Long lasting = the Red ones from most auto parts stores. The key to mufflers is the less they do the better they are.
