I onder if they are referring to the steel plate welded to the bottom of the frame rails on some 55's. None on my 55 Sunliner.
Yep, that's the one. I want to stiffen this thing up some. I had one here but didn't measure the thickness. I just didn't think to do that at the time.
Can someone explain or show a photo of this plate? About where is it located? Was it an attempt at frame repair?
I kind of think that maybe they were only on conv frames. Plates welded to the bottom of the X member from the factory. My Sunliner does not have them but I have seen pictures of the plates.

No, these were plates added to the bottom of the frame rails and as I recall, I only saw pictures of convertible frames. When I started on my 55 I found those photos but can't now.
I have a '54 Convertible, a '54 Skyliner Hardtop and a '54 Mainline Sedan and only the convertible has the steel plates welded to the bottom of the frame rails, obviously to stiffen the frame. If somebody needs to know the thickness of those steel plates I can measure them.
I finally got curious and looked at my 56 Victoria. There is a frame plate that starts at 3” behind the body mount at the fire wall and ends infront of the body mount infront of the rear spring front mount. It is 1/4” thick and s***ch welded approximately every 6”. The welds are between 1” and 1-1”2” long. It is flat and turns up near the front. The 56 frame that dos cincos shows is what I have. No wonder theses cars were so good on the dirt tracks in the late 50’s on.
Yes, that's it! I've added a lot of power and torque and would like to stiffen the frame. It would be great if you could give me the thickness!!
I thought it was a bit thicker but it's been a long time since I had the car. Never throw anything away! Thanks! Bill
