Sorry if in the wrong section I couldn`t find a suitable one
I dont know about the Derby scene in the USA but over here in the UK there seems to be a trend now for Banger racing classic American cars- the older and rarer the better
Some of these racers are paying big money just to destroy and earn bragging rights , there are also the stolen ones where somebodies pride and joy have been destroyed
As we speak there are 2 x 59 Caddy coupe devilles being prepared for an upcoming race , its soul destroying seeing the photos

    Sorry rant over

  2. I have followed it in the past, reminds me of Sunday night racing at Ascot in CA. The fans that night tended to be more drunk and rowdy than the Thursday night program. I saw many 1960's cars that were amazingly clean there and this was in 1984.

Unfortunately the cost to restore and even maintain some less desirable classic cars (in the era of late 50s to 60s) far outstrips there resale value so they have become "banger" material. I see cars at shows heading in that direction as they suffer more and more from neglect. The upside is that more salvage parts become available

This 1956 Chevy was destroyed in Emmen Banger race ( Netherlands) two weeks ago……….if they crush a Fiat Punto in thoose banger race I don’t care, but it’s not okey to do this with a tri-five here in Europe .

  5. I recall a demo derby from Islip Speedway that was televised on Wide World of Sports in 1964. Someone entered a bone stock 1932 Ford coupe and it was bashed to bits real quick.
