OK I know I am a stranger in here, more or less, my attention is more in the Jockey Journal, my bike is my focus right now. I am Big_al in there. ANYWAY, those who know me, know I have eclectic tastes. Here is an eclectic show for y'all. The Orange Show (sponsor of the Art Car Parade) is hosting a car show on Sept 16th, 1-6 pm. Truth is that this is mostly a low rider show, but they are wanting to expand and asked me to see if I could drumm up a few traditional rods to come out and represent. I understand it is free, and the orange show usually takes care of car artists with food and drink....... If there is interest I will call and get more details....if not then I will be alone and probaly get stomped by the lowrider kids...... see the details (with a pic of my Studebaker) here: http://www.orangeshow.org/events.html
Not to be a smart ***, but what the hell is "eclectic"...I can't even say it! Ya I got a Stude too, but a Daytona.....OLDBEET
Main Entry: 1eclec·tic Pronunciation: e-'klek-tik, Function: adjective 1 : selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or styles 2 : composed of elements drawn from various sources; also : I wasn't trying to show off, I thought that word was in common usage....it means I am "into a lot of different things.....some that have little or no connection." I am into Hot Rods, Bikes, and freaky Art Cars......make sense?
NOW they want us? They kicked traditional hot rods and traditional customs out of the Art Car Parade back in 1999. I fought for them to remain in as a sample of true American "Folk Art", but they refused. And now they want us for their show? Bah! Forget it. I won't even help them empty beer cans for the restoration of the Beer Can house.
I do not work for the Orange Show, they asked ME to come and I said I would offer an invite to other hot rodders. No Rods or Customs? Hummm, I don't know about that...I know they kicked STOCK "cl***ic" and "antique" cars out.....BUT I had never heard that they wouldn't allow a car that had been painted or altered in some way. I mean a car isn't an art car because it is OLD, something has to be altered. Hell, they allowed a guy who had a stock blue Ferrari, he said it was a tribute to the children who died in the Tsunami.....total ********, but they let him in...... Perhaps it is different people now? In 1999 the parade was part of the interanational festival and the FESTIVAL was limiting the number of cars....something had to give. The last several years the parade has not been ***ocaited with the I-Fest and has been an "EVERYONE" theme and they have really opened up. There is NO limit to the number of cars....in 1999 the International Festival required the limit. Perhaps you are mad at the wrong organization? Or perhaps they realize their mistake? My Stude Custom took two prizes last year.... First Place in Daily driver, and second place in Low Rider...(I know, but you don't get to choose categories..the judges pick what category you are in.) But I don't want drama....come if you want, don't come if you don't.....
welcome from the woodlands i know that there are going to be alot of lowrider clubs going. i dont see it for rods sorry
Yep, .....as I said in the original post...."Truth is that this is mostly a low rider show, but they are wanting to expand and asked me to see if I could drumm up a few traditional rods to come out and represent." The idea is that they want to try something new....and I want to try to show them something new.
BTTT The Houston Press interviewed me yesterday....I pray they don't make me sound any stupider that I really am.... I know this is going to be a mostly low rider deal, but I think that it is cool that the Orange Show is extending the invite....I thought it was open invite but it appears the I need to call in and say how many are coming....can anyone commit? If you are not sure that is fine...I am sure that they will take hot rodders without reservation...but I would like to give em an idea. More info and even more....
harley the reason lowriders are so into it is because the ULA(united lowrider ***oation) is all involved with all that. i know im new to the hamb but it would be cool for hambers to get together on something like that. just an idea
hell yeah! I was meaning to call you personally... I might need a place to crash..... sold that springer to kwashburn too...thanks....
