Hi guys - i bought this on ebay a few months back and finally unpacked it today for the first time to take a look see at how it works. I didnt get a manual- and one of the small parts (bit holder?) is chipped (whats a good steel to machine a new one from if i need to? I have a mini mill and a small sb9 lathe).. anyway - hoping i can use this to cut std 45 degree seats and experiment on valve seats - were these pretty decent for stock type stuff? Hopefully i didnt waste my $ :/ here are some pics:
Not sure what to do for the chipped part, but you'll need some sort of fixture to hold the head at the proper angle and also perfectly level so your guides are perpendicular to your mill's business end, hopefully your machine is large enough to accommodate that and all of the cutter tooling .
yeah i think i might weld it up and machine back down- be alot easier- gonna play with it a bit today- found another link with some instructions here https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...to-valve-seat-cutter-instruction-help.320064/ Be nice to also use as a head bowl cutter like the goodson 3d- with some mods...
If you could find a large, grade 8 bolt (maybe 1" thread?) at a s**** yard maybe you could machine a new piece from the head of said bolt. I don't know how that tooling works, but another idea: is it possible to just machine the damaged piece to create the same "cutout" opposite the damaged cutout?
Been ages, way back in the newsgroup days, but I recall there were a few sites for machining equipment manuals. The sites may still be around? I was able to download a manual for my mid ‘50’s Logan lathe.
