Long before I got my 40 Ford pickup, someone replaced the factory floor with a flat floor. This is presenting me with some body fit problems. Question for you 40 pickup guys: Is your cab sitting on the frame at the front mounting holes (at the firewall)?

The replacement wood does not extend up to the front holes, so I believe the cab should be bolted down directly to the frame at the firewall.

My 41 pickup sits on the frame at the firewall
But I put a piece of self adhesive ch***is webbing under the feet there probably a fat 1/8” thick
Otherwise I used a repop stock style wood kit

On my '40, there was a piece of rubber belting 3/16 " thick. Also, from the factory there was a spring on that cowl bolt about 1.5 inches long--for vibration. Probably not needed for our modern roads.

I like the more expensive kit better. I have both. There is some fitting ( sanding, filing ) required; even with a good repo floor pan. Here are some pix of what the original floor and wood blocks should look like. The floor in the pix is a one piece stamping from Midwest Early Ford in Ohio. I don't know if they are still available. They saved my project.

This is a piece of angle I added because I didn't have the seat riser in place to stiffen the floor. Even with all the stamping "ribs" it would not support my weight. Maybe if the floor was a heavier gage .....

Some extra thumbnails above of the p***. side and bottom of firewall. I hope this helps.

BTW The only place the body touches the wood blocks is where the bolts are.

The photos are outstanding! Thank you! They are a big help.

Would one of you do me the favor of measuring two dimensions on your truck?

    1. I need to know the vertical dimension from the bottom of the cowl to the reveal in the running board at the back of the rear fender (the vertical gap shown in the photo below). This photo is the p***enger side.

    2. I need to know the vertical dimension from the back corner of the cab to the running board, as shown by the tape measure in the photo below.

I'll see if I can get something from the bottom of my doors; my cowl and cab corners are rotted away. I'll have to install my boards also.

The gap from the cab to the frame looks like you're in the ballpark.

    Chris,
Welcome to the 40-41 pickup ward.
Can’t help you with the dimensions on mine, as the boards are not on yet.
But I will be taking notes.
I have the typical short cab wood kit in mine.

    @joel
I did like you and had to add reinforcement to the floor.. It had actually sway backed in the center.
My theory was that the trans cover didn’t add much to the support and let it bend at the opening.

Also maybe a measurement from the bottom of the doors ( front corner and rear corner) to the bottom of the frame wood be useful. Thanks

Always happy to see another 40/41 PU build. I am unable to oblige as mine is still apart from painting.
