Chuck, Dave VanAlystine owns the car as well as his recent build also called Frequent Flyer although it is a 63 Vette with some older racing history. He is selling both cars for reasons to me unknown. Both the 61 and the 63 were SEGA A/G race cars. Alan Gaulden drove the 61 for several years. I believe the 61 is the car that Quain Stott built and if I remember correctly he did a build thread on here. The 61 is now being sold as a roller and the 63 is ready to race in A/G on the Southeast Gasser circuit. Dave is on Facebook which may give you more info if you look on his homepage. I wish I was younger and had a fatter wallet as the 61 would be in my garage.

Hey, just a tidbit of trivia.... Bob Moreira's '57 was bought as a total, back in '57. He bought it strictly to drag race. The fancy bodywork and paint just kinda happened. A good friend of mine helped to paint the critter. It was a factory F.I. 4-spd car moreira corvette.jpg , but wasn't quite fast enough for Bob, so he yanked the F.I. unit and installed a factory 2-4bbl setup. It went slower, so off with the quads and on with an aftermarket manifold and 3-97's. Now it was faster than the F.I., and he had many trophy's to show for it. After he died, his family sold all the trophy's and the car. I have pictures of the car with my friend, showing the 3-97's.

Somewhere I saw a picture of this car rotting away sitting outdoors. I wonder where it is, I hope someone is able to restore it, such a beautiful car.... corvettehotrods226.jpg

Jim, I would, wholeheartedly, agree! Since walking away from drag racing, not many full-on competition cars cause me to take a second look. The '61 was one of the few that did. Straight axles aren't exactly my cup of tea but the whole stance of that car is appealing. Meanwhile, the fairly stout, stroker small block that's taking up space in my shop will have to wait for another day.

Kind of look like they cut off the upper portion of SP tops or Scott tops and put them in the hood.

    Hello,

Betty Skeleton was a “Wonder Woman…” She drove all kinds of Corvettes for herself, her sponsors and the factory races all over the USA. Betty Skelton frequently referred to as the “first lady of firsts”, worked side-by-side with some of the biggest names in Corvette, and established unbelievable records of her own in racing, aviation, and automotive history.
    upload_2023-1-9_4-10-23.png
GM designed this special Corvette for Betty in 1956-57. Skelton drove the translucent gold Corvette to Daytona for Speed Week and then paced all the NASCAR races with it in 1957. She was the first woman to be inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame and was also the first woman in the world to drive to new records through the famous NASCAR measured mile on the sands of Daytona Beach.

We only wish we could have owned and driven the streamlined 56 Corvette at Daytona Beach, Bonneville and with the right set up, the dragstrip racing. If only…
